Mohs Surgical And Tissue Processing Tech The Mohs surgical tech assists our surgeons during the Mohs procedure by providing direct patient care, handing and handling surgical instruments, documenting in the EMR as well as performing more specific surgical tasks as instructed by the surgeon. On alternate days, this employee functions as a Mohs tissue processing tech and will be responsible for receiving, processing and preparing patient tissue specimens for microscopic examination and analysis. Job Duties And Functions: Demonstrates a solid understanding of skin cancers and how MOHS surgery affects patient outcomes. Records all pre-procedure documentation including consents, medications, allergies and health history. Stocks and prepares exam rooms and surgical trays to the specifications of each surgeon. Assists the physician throughout the procedure by properly positioning the patient, handling instruments, numbing, suturing, bleeding control, cauterizing as well as providing support with excisions and biopsies. Performs frozen sections of surgical tissue for microscopic examination by the MOHS surgeon. Verifies specimen validity, identification and requisition. Able to prioritize workload to ensure that patient care remains in the forefront at all times. Maintains excellent work relationships with staff, providers and management. Is accountable for his/her actions or mistakes and takes a proactive approach to problem solving. Adheres to department policy, and to CAP, CLIA, HIPAA and OSHA regulations at all times specifically with waste disposal and specimen integrity practices. Demonstrates solid team work skills and is able to successfully work collaboratively with a team of surgical techs in a high-volume setting. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 2+ years of experience in a clinical setting. Surgical and laboratory experience, where specimens were handled, is preferred. RMA, CMA, or Bachelors in a medical related field. Current CPR certification Solid knowledge of medical terminology, and HIPAA regulations. Confident handling surgical instruments maintaining a sterile field at all times. Meticulous documentation skills in addition to a high level of attention to detail. Ability to multi task and work under pressure. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with employees, physicians, and management. Environmental Working Conditions: Must be able to work in a clinical environment and stand for an extended period of time. Must also be able to work on a computer and/or be on the phone for 3-4 hours at a time. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger; handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to focus. Requires visual acuity and normal color perception. Special note: Due to the unique operational needs of our clinics, we may request that our employees work in a different site from the one they were originally scheduled in. Sometimes these requests are planned and sometimes they are spontaneous and could be after the employee has reported to work for the day. Reasons for these requests vary but they are mainly is to ensure coverage in case of high patient volume, unscheduled absences from other staff, etc. Therefore, we require all our employees to have a valid and unrestricted driver's license. Mileage reimbursement will be paid in accordance with our Mileage Reimbursement Policy.
