Job Details (Travel Nursing Contract) Job Title: Travel PCU Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Step-Down Unit Location: Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870 (North Carolina healthcare job) Employment Type: Travel Contract / Travel Nursing Contract Length: 13 weeks Start Date: January 26, 2026 End Date: April 28, 2026 Hourly Pay Rate: $0/hr Shift: Nights (19:00–07:30) Shift Duration: 12-hour shifts Hours per Week: 36 Scheduling: Flexible scheduling options with self-scheduling based on unit and manager needs Unit Size: 35 beds (27 Medical Beds 8-bed Medical Intermediate Unit); average census 25–30 Floating: May float to ED, Med-Surg, and ICU as needed Dress Code: Black scrubs, white scrubs, or a combination PCU RN Job Requirements Experience: 2 years of recent PCU / Step-Down RN experience (Progressive Care Unit) License: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Compact accepted) Certifications: BLS (AHA) , ACLS (AHA) , NIH Stroke Scale Skills: IV insertion proficiency; ability to titrate vasoactive drips as ordered Assessment: Relias exams required upon booking (2 attempts; failure on second attempt may result in pre-start cancellation) Other: 80-mile radius rule applies Responsibilities (Progressive Care / Step-Down Nursing) Provide PCU nursing care for patients with conditions such as chest pain/MI rule-out, CHF, PE, GI bleed, COPD, respiratory failure, diabetes, and acute/chronic renal failure Recognize and respond to changes in condition, escalating care appropriately in a Medical Step-Down (PCU) setting Titrate vasoactive drips as ordered (including Nitro, Cardene, and Cardizem) Support and assist with procedures such as chest tube insertion, central line insertion, HD tunneled catheter insertion, and thoracentesis Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to deliver safe, efficient patient care (typical RN/LPN ratio 1:5 with flex to 6; 1:4 max on intermediate beds; CNA ratio 1:7–9) Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and timely in accordance with facility policy Apply now to join our healthcare team and secure your next PCU RN travel contract in Roanoke Rapids, NC .
