Position Description Job Description: As a GPS Field Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting our construction projects by collecting accurate data and measurements on site. Your primary responsibility will be to assist the survey team in conducting topographic surveys, as-built surveys, and construction layout to ensure the accurate and precise execution of construction activities. Joining our team as a GPS Field Technician will provide you with valuable hands-on experience in the construction industry, opportunities for growth, and the chance to work on exciting and challenging projects. This position is one in which a momentary lapse of attention may result in grave and immediate danger to themselves and others; therefore, this position is classified as safety sensitive. Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with the construction survey team to execute field surveys, including topographic and as-built surveys. Assist in setting up control points, benchmarks, and reference points to establish accurate survey reference systems. Perform field measurements, data collection, and recording of survey data, including notes, sketches, and photographs. Utilize GNSS survey equipment and auto-levels to measure and record precise data. Establish and maintain site layout and construction staking for performance of excavation and site work activities. Assist construction surveyor in the management and distribution of construction models to field devices and machine control systems. Follow safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment for yourself and the team during survey activities. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other construction personnel to ensure accurate interpretation and implementation of survey data. Assist in resolving any discrepancies or issues related to survey data and communicating findings to the survey team and relevant stakeholders. Continuously develop your technical knowledge and skills in surveying techniques, equipment, and software. Assist crew management with completion of tasks, even if they are not directly related to GPS or surveying. Position Requirements Minimum Requirements:Previous experience in construction surveying and layout, either through internships, co-op programs, or relevant work experience. Knowledge of construction processes and terminology. Strong mathematical and analytical skills to accurately calculate measurements and interpret survey data. Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work with precision and accuracy in a fast-paced construction environment. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to collaborate with team members and communicate survey findings. Physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and on uneven terrain. Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to project sites as required. ? Preferred Qualifications:Proficiency in operating surveying equipment, including total stations, GPS receivers, and data collectors - Familiarity with Topcon and Trimble is preferred. A competent understanding of coordinate systems, projections, and datums. Understanding of civil roadway plans; including but not limited to - cross sections, plan and profile, survey control details, and storm drain profiles.
