Job DescriptionPosition: Field Technician II, Power Distribution FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt Location: Office/Hybrid/Remote Department: Distribution Supervisory Responsibilities: No Supervisor Title: Manager, Distribution The purpose of the Field Technician II is to provide various field technical services for the inspection, audits, joint use permitting and attachments, damage assessment, and safety of electric distribution facilities. Responsible for project management, training, and mentoring. Also, requires at least 70% of activities to be performed outdoors. In addition, projects may be 2 plus hours away from the incumbent's residence or office. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Collect and analyze field data and prepare accurate and detailed reports and records. Learn, practice, and promote ALL safety policies and procedures 100% of the time. Identify electric distribution facilities and third-party facilities (Fiber, CATV, Comm) and ownership. Act as a liaison between client on of third-party attachment projects. Project management, training and mentoring of Field Technician I's. Execute and plan daily goals while meeting quality, time constraints. Maintain consistent quality data while achieving production standards. Operate customer based proprietary software and other computer systems to expedite and facilitate the work order process. Perform field audits of existing electric utility facilities. Perform research to identify pole ownership, right of way, property rights, and permit requirements for proposed Collect field data by visually inspecting, identifying, and recording equipment and structures in the field. Utilize measuring equipment including laser rangefinders, fiberglass hot sticks, measuring wheels, as well as taking detailed photos, using a compass and binoculars. Utilize laptops, Tablets, Smart Phone apps. Additionally, utilized Trimble and other data collection and engineering technology with training. Utilize software apps such as Fulcrum, ArcGIS and other mobile platforms, as well as training in the use of hardware and software applications. Participate in routing, pre & post ride outs of projects. Working knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code(s). Perform other duties as assigned by management. Education, Skills, and Abilities Required Associate degree in engineering, engineering technology, design technology, or a related field and at least 2+ years of utility experience is preferred. A Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering will qualify for this position with no prior experience. Or High School diploma/GED with 4+ years of equivalent utility experience without a degree. Working knowledge of design, and/or power distribution systems, CATV and Comm systems. Five + years of experience or relative equivalent is required. Proficient user of Microsoft Office based applications. Working knowledge of documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Self-motivated- must be able to work well independently. Capable of independent work and time management. Overnight travel during the week will be required. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to clearly communicate with client/customer/office personnel regarding the scope of work Ability to constructively manage multiple tasks. Possess valid driver's license and vehicle suitable for business use (mileage reimbursement may apply). Required to participate in storm restoration activities as a "Driver", "Wire Guard" or "Assessor" if needed. Physical Demands and Working ConditionsPhysical Functions:Must be able to endure frequent: driving, standing, walking long distances (up to 5 miles or more in a day), navigate through rough terrain on foot. Incumbent will be working in public, as well as private "right of Way". Must be comfortable working in a "nature" environment, animals, insects, etc. Working Environment:This role is primarily an outside working environment which may include extreme heat, extreme cold, noise, and sun exposure. Proper Personal Equipment: Hard hat, safety glasses, work gloves, ID card, cellular phone, EH rated footwear with toe box OSHA Ratings, PVD's, DRG Safety Traffic Vest. Career Progression Power Field Technician II is the second working level in the Field Engineering department. Incumbents will have 2-6 years of experience and perform routine tasks independently, receiving less supervision when assisting with more complex engineering tasks. The natural progression for this position is to either a Power Designer III or Power Field Technician III role. Please note that years of service alone do not automatically qualify an individual for the next tier position. Advancement from Power Field Technician II to the next tier is determined by a combination of demonstrated knowledge, skill proficiency, and relevant industry experience and is solely based on supervision's evaluation.
