Availability is subject to center waitlist.This is a union position represented by Douglas County Law Enforcement Association.In addition to filling current vacancies, a hiring list will be established to fill future Corrections Deputy openings. Openings will be offered to applicants dependent upon all qualifiers and testing. There is no guarantee future opportunities will occur.Essential Job Duties: Maintains security of inmates; escorts inmates to court and other facilities; books, searches, fingerprints and photographs incoming prisoners; maintains logs and records; interprets and follows court orders; employs both oral instruction and disciplinary procedures necessary to maintain order; searches inmates and cell units for contraband articles; conducts visual security checks of all inmates on an hourly basis or less; answers questions and interprets policy and procedure for law enforcement officials, attorneys, inmates, inmates' families, and the public; uses with a high degree of accuracy, a firearm and such non-lethal weaponry as required; and operates a two-way radio system under normal and stressful conditions. Requires regular and consistent attendance.Work Schedule: Position requires working 12-hour rotating shifts that include nights and weekends.POSITION REQUIREMENTSThe Sheriff's Office Requires the Following Minimum Qualifications: Must be 21 years of age by the time of certification Must be a United States citizen or be one within eighteen (12) months of hire. Must possess a high school diploma or GED certificate of high school equivalency. Must have an acceptable driving record and the ability to obtain a valid driver's license. Applicants for this position must meet the requirements of the County's Driving Policy. Must be free from convictions of crime other than minor traffic violations. Must successfully pass an extensive background investigation. Must pass an extensive post-offer pre-employment physical assessment and psychological evaluation. Accommodation requests will be reviewed on an individual basis in compliance with State and Federal legislation. Must successfully pass a post offer pre- employment drug test. Must be willing to be fingerprinted and have fingerprints filed with the State. Visual and Hearing Acuity: Must meet the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training requirements as detailed in Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs) 259­-0080010, Must be able to be certified by the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training. Must meet the Minimum Standards for Employment as a Law Enforcement Officer as provided for in Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs) 259-008-0010. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Preference may be given to applicants with public safety experience/training.Only those persons who will be able to successfully pass an intensive background investigation need apply.SCREENING & EVALUATION Applicants must completeONE of the following academic proficiencies: Successful recent (within the past twelve months) FrontLine test with National Testing Network (NTN). Possess a four-year, post-secondary degree issued by an accredited, degree-granting college or university recognized by the Oregon Office of Degree Authorization underthe provisions of ORS 348-604. Successfully completed training resulting in the award of Basic Police certification from the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST). Applicants must provide the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office proof of successful completion ofONE of the following physical proficiencies from the administering agency: Recent (within the past twelve months) Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT) completed time from an Oregon Law Enforcement organization or authorized testing agency (NTN). Successfully completed training resulting in the award of Basic Police certification from the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST). Applicants must complete the NEOGOV (Douglas County Sheriff’s Office) application.
