Job Description Our client, a global manufacturer in the Belding MI area, is seeking a seasoned Trade Compliance Manager. This person should have deep expertise in U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations and the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA). This role is essential for ensuring compliance with U.S. import laws, directing CBP interactions, and leading UFLPA due diligence and response efforts across complex global supply chains. You'll be at the forefront of import compliance strategy, risk mitigation, and enforcement action readiness-working with crossfunctional teams, customs authorities, and external partners to safeguard compliant trade operations. Relocation assistance is available for out-of-area candidatesKey Responsibilities Oversee compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection import regulations, including classification, valuation, country of origin, and recordkeeping. Lead the company's UFLPA compliance program, driving supplier due diligence, risk assessments, and traceability mapping. Prepare, review, and submit UFLPA rebuttal packages and supporting evidence to CBP. Respond to CBP audits, inquiries, detentions, and Withhold Release Orders (WROs) in partnership with legal and operations teams. Serve as the primary point of contact for CBP, outside counsel, customs brokers, and internal stakeholders. Monitor and interpret changes in customs law, forced labor enforcement, and trade regulations. Develop, maintain, and train teams on internal policies and procedures related to CBP and UFLPA compliance. Conduct internal audits and gap assessments to identify and mitigate compliance risks. Support supplier onboarding and ongoing monitoring relative to forced labor and import compliance. Deliver guidance and training to sourcing, logistics, legal, procurement, and other crossfunctional teams. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Supply Chain, Business, Law, or related field. 8+ years of experience in trade compliance, customs compliance, or import operations. Direct handson experience managing CBP matters including audits, detentions, or enforcement actions. Demonstrated knowledge of UFLPA, forced labor regulations, and WRO processes. Familiarity with bonded warehousing or customs brokerage experience. Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills. Proven success resolving CBP detentions and exclusions. Understanding of supply chain traceability expectations. Preferred Qualifications Former experience with CBP, DHS, or other trade enforcement agency. Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) or professional trade compliance certification. Experience in industries with elevated UFLPA risk Experience managing thirdparty audits and supplier risk programs. Experience with CBP systems and import compliance software. Mandarin Chinese proficiency is a plus.
