Role Overview The Transportation Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring uninterrupted freight movement outside of standard business hours. This position is responsible for real-time shipment monitoring, proactive issue resolution, and serving as the primary point of contact for carriers, drivers, and customers during nights, weekends, and holidays. The ideal candidate is calm under pressure, highly detail-oriented, and experienced in over-the-road trucking operations, with the ability to independently manage service disruptions, update load status in the TMS, and escalate urgent issues when needed. This role is essential to maintaining service reliability, clear communication, and seamless handoffs between shifts. Key Responsibilities: Real-Time Shipment Monitoring: Monitor active shipments and ensure timely pickup and delivery. Proactively address delays, detention, missed appointments, and other service disruptions. Carrier & Driver Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers and carriers after regular business hours. Provide dispatch support, directions, appointment confirmations, and problem resolution. Customer Support: Respond to urgent customer inquiries regarding in-transit loads, service issues, or scheduling adjustments. Escalate critical issues to the appropriate on-call personnel when necessary. Load Management & Updates: Input and maintain accurate load status updates in the TMS Confirm deliveries, collect proof of delivery (POD), and document service events. Issue Resolution: Handle breakdowns, layovers, late arrivals, and accessorial approvals. Coordinate with customers, carriers, and internal teams to resolve any after-hours emergencies. Documentation & Handoffs: Ensure all updates, notes, and communications are logged clearly for next-shift handoff. Follow established SOPs and escalation procedures consistently. Qualifications: 3+ years in a freight brokerage, dispatch, or carrier operations role Working knowledge of over-the-road trucking, ELD tracking, and common load board tools Familiarity with TMS platforms (Turvo, McLeod, DAT, etc.) Strong problem-solving skills with a calm, professional demeanor during high-stress situations Excellent written and verbal communication Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Flexible to work nights, weekends, and holidays Preferred Skills: Experience in split model brokerage operations (carrier & customer support functions) Comfortable using tools like Highway, DAT, Truckstop, and GPS tracking platforms Basic understanding of accessorials, rate confirmations, and detention/layover handling Benefits Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance Plan 401K Plan w/ Employer Match Life Insurance Plan Paid Time Off, Paid Holidays Location: La Mirada, CA Work Hours: Mon-Fri, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
