Maintenance Mechanic (2nd shift) At Häns Kissle, we strive to deliver the simple goodness of home in every bite. Job Description Summary: A maintenance mechanic at Häns Kissle is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and installation of all equipment used in the production and packaging of food products. You play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of these systems, thus contributing to the overall success of the manufacturing process. Key Responsibilities: Food Safety: • Ensure that the facility and all production equipment are maintained properly while abiding by all Food Safety guidelines and procedures. • Identify, communicate, and help to resolve potential food safety concerns that may appear (condensation, improper welds, hygienic design, etc.) Equipment/Facilities Maintenance: • Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on all production and facilities equipment. This includes boilers, mixers, ovens, conveyors, and components of ammonia refrigeration systems. • Conduct preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and prevent equipment failures. Troubleshooting: • Efficiently diagnose a variety of equipment consisting of electrical, mechanical, steam, ammonia, and control system components. • Utilize diagnostic tools, equipment, and drawings to identify and address problems effectively. Repairs and Upgrades: • Repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems as needed. • Participate in equipment upgrades or modifications to improve efficiency or meet changing production requirements. Safety Compliance: • Ensure that the facility and all production equipment are kept within safety standards and regulatory requirements. • Maintain a safety mindset, ensuring all tasks performed are within safety guidelines and procedures. • Work in conjunction with other teams to identify safety concerns and assist with the development of solutions to protect employees and maintain a safe working environment. • Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs and work in confined spaces and in the proximity to loud equipment. • Must be able to respond to dangerous situations in a safe manner. Documentation: • Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance and repair activities using computer-based systems. • Document and communicate spare parts inventory and order replacement components when necessary. Team Collaboration: • Communicate effectively and clearly with production teams to expedite the troubleshooting process or provide proper equipment operational instruction. • Work closely with production and engineering teams to coordinate maintenance activities, schedule downtime, and minimize disruptions. • Assist in training other team members in basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting. Continuous Improvement: • Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains throughout the manufacturing process. • Suggest and implement cost-effective solutions to enhance productivity. Qualifications: • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in industrial maintenance is a plus. • Proven experience as a maintenance mechanic in a food manufacturing or similar industrial manufacturing setting. • Strong mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting skills. • Knowledge of various tools and equipment used in maintenance and repair. • Understanding of safety regulations and the ability to ensure compliance. • Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and stand for extended periods. • Must be able to wear personal protective gear most of the day. • Must be able to work in cold environments and on concrete floors. (As low as 32 degrees) • Remain in a stationary position, often standing for prolonged periods. • Exposed to occupational noise. • Repetitive bending/twisting of body. • Exposure to high temperature water. • Exposure to hazardous chemicals. • Must wear steel tow boots (minimum 6 inches above ankle) • Excellent communication and teamwork skills. • Flexibility to work in shifts and respond to emergencies as needed. • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards (e.g., GMP, HACCP) is a plus. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Protective Equipment: When in the plant, employees must wear personal protective equipment, as required, which may include an assigned work uniform, hair and beard net, safety glasses, designated shoes and ear protection.
