Laboratory Specimen Processing Specialist Location: Seattle Schedule: Monday-Friday, 10:00 AM-6:30 PM Interview Format: In-person Position Overview The Laboratory Specimen Processing Specialist plays a key role in supporting daily laboratory operations by ensuring accurate specimen handling, exceptional customer service, and adherence to quality and compliance standards. This position requires strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment. Specimen Processing Receive, verify, sort, and prepare blood, urine, and other biological specimens according to established protocols. Confirm patient identification and ensure proper labeling. Operate laboratory equipment including centrifuges and copiers. Utilize the organization's EHR and LIS systems to review data, process orders, and track specimens. Centrifuge, aliquot, and load specimens onto laboratory instruments. Phone Support & Customer Service Answer incoming calls and provide information regarding test ordering, specimen requirements, and general lab inquiries. Relay messages, assist providers with questions about patient results, and contact reference laboratories as needed. Ensure all communication is timely, accurate, and professional to support smooth laboratory workflow. Documentation & Resource Management Complete documentation related to lab incidents and specimen issues Fill out reference lab forms and ensure results from external testing sites are received and scanned into the EHR. Serve as a resource for resolving specimen-related concerns and reporting issues. Equipment Maintenance Record temperatures, defrost freezers, and clean laboratory equipment. Follow maintenance schedules and ensure all equipment is functioning safely and efficiently. Quality Improvement & Compliance Participate in Quality Improvement and Lean Process Improvement initiatives. Complete all mandatory training on time. Attend department, team, and committee meetings. Adhere to all department and site-specific policies and procedures.
