Huntsville School District Job DescriptionJob Title: Director of Custodial & Maintenance Reports To: Superintendent Contracted Days: 240 Job Summary: Develops, implements, and oversees programs to ensure that the District's physical facilities are properly operated, maintained, and cleaned to support all buildings, grounds, and other district assets. Plans, directs, and supervises the Maintenance, Custodial, and Utility programs to ensure that services are provided effectively and that resources are utilized efficiently. Essential Duties: Plans, directs and supervises the activities of the Maintenance department including plant operations, equipment, buildings, grounds and preventive maintenance. Plans, directs and supervises the activities of the Custodial department including cleaning, minor maintenance, operations, and activity support. Oversees and supervises the Districts utility functions which include equipment, operations and resource allocation related to heating fuels, electricity, water, sewer and solid waste disposal. Plans and directs a resource management program and coordinates an energy conservation program. Works to ensure efficient use of energy in facility operations and programs. Develops and implements procedures used to provide staff access to buildings. Coordinates the District's asbestos management plan in accordance with the Asbestos Hazard Response Act (AHERA). Prepares and recommends operating and capital budgets for departments within areas of responsibility and controls expenditures within approved budgets. Works with city, county, state, and federal agencies as required. Oversees joint-use agreements with the City of Huntsville. Directs and supervises long and short range planning for building operation, maintenance and repair, custodial services and energy conservation. Assists in the preparation and implementation of a capital improvement program. Develops plans to integrate new and remodeled facilities into existing Facilities Services operations. Plans and directs a program to coordinate all after-hours use of facilities by community groups. Maintains a centralized schedule of all elementary and middle school facility use. Ensures compliance with all facility use guidelines and proper collection of rental fees. Other duties may be assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent training. At least five years of supervisory experience resulting in acquired skills in planning, organizing and controlling a major area of responsibility. Managerial experience in one or all of the primary functions is preferred.
