Job Description SummaryIMPORTANT NOTE: This position is open to applicants who are CURRENTLY ENROLLED AT ULV AND HAVE AN ACTIVE FEDERAL WORK STUDY awardThe Ontario City Library is seeking individuals who are passionate about helping elementary school students develop and strengthen their literacy skills. Rise, the library's literacy service, includes a tutoring program for children in grades K - 6. Tutors will receive training on how to help students learn to read. Availability: • Must be available at least two days per week to work in-person with students at the Ovitt Family Community Library. Job opening is off site, STUDENTS MUST PROVIDE THEIR OWN TRANSPORTATION TO/FROM community partner site(s). Specific Duties • Work one-to-one or in small groups with students. • Provide instruction on reading and writing at varying levels. • Create engaging and effective lesson plans. Minimum Qualifications -Ability to pass a fingerprint review (background check) as necessary -Must be 18 or older -Reliable transportation -Dependable -Calm and patient -Good communication skills -Positive attitude -Safety conscious -Must be a current ULV student Preferred Qualifications Depending on the task(s): -Organized and detail oriented with a high level of accuracy -Customer service and/or clerical experience -Adept with computers and technology Benefits Summary Employees are eligible for the following benefits: One hour of Paid Sick Leave for every 30 hours worked, with a maximum accrual of 24 hours of Paid Sick Leave per year and capped at 48 hours. University of La Verne Defined Contribution Retirement Plan - can contribute employee voluntary contributions, excluding wages derived from federal work study funds. In accordance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), employees who work an average of 30 or more hours per week, will be eligible for medical coverage through the University of La Verne.
