Lifeguard/Swim Instructor (May - September 2026)

The Village of Lake Zurich Park & Recreation Department seeks candidates for the position of Lifeguard/Swim Instructor. The Village provides lifeguard coverage at two beaches on Lake Zurich at Paulus Park and Breezewald Park. The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor is responsible for supervision of the beach area to ensure the safety of all beachgoers and for providing swim lessons to people of all ages. Position Responsibilities: Supervises swimming activities at the beautiful beaches of Lake Zurich and ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed. Warns swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces beach regulations and water safety policies. Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary. Evaluates conditions for safety and initiates aquatics emergency action plan as required. Inspects facilities, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable. Supervises and assists in cleaning the beach facilities and equipment. Instructs or assists classes in fundamentals of swimming as needed. Resolves scheduling conflicts to ensure a safe environment when competing programs/priorities require use of beach facilities. Candidates may complete an employment application located on the Village of Lake Zurich website at Interviews are scheduled to begin during winter break. Qualifications Qualified candidates must be at least 16 years old. A current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is preferred, but not necessary. Training will be provided for qualified candidates.
