Salary: $27.31 Hourly Location : Water Department Marietta, GA Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 04715 Department: Water Opening Date: 02/09/2026 Closing Date: Continuous Grade Code: 111 Position Information This position leads and participates in tasks involving water utility operations; establishes service of new customers, sets new meters, and makes taps; inspects meters to identify leaks, high readings, damage, or illegal connections; installs and repairs water services; raises manhole lids; locates and repairs water/sewer lines; excavates ground around water/sewer lines; flushes sewer lines and manholes; makes water taps; maintains records of recorded and unrecorded cross-connection backflow installations; conducts backflow testing and enters test results into computer; and operates sewer pump stations and inspects pump stations to ensure proper operations. Essential Functions Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals. Coordinates work activities for assigned staff and/or contracted vendors: prioritizes and assigns work activities: ensures subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex and problem situations and provide technical expertise; and provides progress and activity reports to supervisor as requested. Manage s the pre-billing and post-billing process: reviews the daily meter reading reports, and reviews and approves billing files. Monitors contracted work: communicates with contractors installing new water lines and meters regarding work in progress and completed work; coordinates bid proposals for contracted services; and maintains related documentation. Maintains inventory of equipment, parts and supplies: orders materials and equipment; coordinates needed repairs and maintenance; makes recommendations regarding specifications for equipment and material procurement; monitors use of supplies and inventory levels; and maintains related documentation. Receives and responds to escalated and/or complex inquiries, concerns and complaints from customers: investigates and resolves customer complaints; and determines validity and corrective action to be implemented. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by five years of experience in reading, repairing and maintaining water meters. Licenses and Certifications Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must obtain Confined Space Entry certification within six months of assignment. Physical Abilities Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds). Sensory Requirements Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
