Responsible for writing all, or portions of, archaeological reports at the direction of the Section Head or Senior Archaeologist. This position has an opportunity for advancement and growth within JMT’s Cultural Resources team, helping to lead efforts in Tennessee and the surrounding states. U.S. Residency Required.Compensation is $58,000. - $70,000., commensurate with experience, education, and certifications.Essential Functions and Responsibilities Conducts archaeological field work to locate and identify artifactsCollects data and field samples during archaeological investigationsAnalyzes historic and pre-historic artifactsDocuments methodologies and findings of research and archaeological investigationsSchedules work and creates team assignments for field crewsInstructs field crews on how to use equipment, technology and field methodsReviews and writes archaeological reports and/or prepares archaeological site formsAssists in making decisions about project alternatives and the resolution of adverse effects to archaeological resourcesWorks with technical field, lab and office staff, managers and administrative staff to ensure that projects meet JMT and professional quality standardsAssists in the preparation of scopes of work, fee proposals, and responses to RFP’sTraining field staff, as required Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities Perform other related duties as assigned Required SkillsRequired Experience Master’s Degree from an accredited school in archaeology5+ years of professional experienceExperience working with the Tennessee Department of TransportationMust meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Qualification Standards for Archaeologists.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Powerpoint Preferred Experience Registered Professional ArchaeologistFamiliarity with ArcMap and/or other GIS programs, and importing AutoCADD and/or Microstation data into GIS programs Working ConditionsWork is performed in the field 50% of the time and requires the ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Field work will require walking and carrying field equipment over typical outdoor terrain. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.Office work is performed within a general office environment 50% of the time. Office work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking.
