Associate Engineering Technician - Electrical Drafter Location: Chattanooga, TN Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire Position Summary The Associate Engineering Technician - Electrical Drafter supports electrical engineering teams by performing technical drafting and design tasks that require an intermediate understanding of engineering principles, practices, and industry standards. Under general supervision, this role produces and maintains high-quality electrical drawings and technical documentation while continuing to develop technical proficiency, quality awareness, and coordination skills. The position offers growth opportunities through increased responsibility, mentorship, and exposure to complex electrical and substation projects. Key Responsibilities Support electrical engineering teams by creating, modifying, and maintaining technical drawings and project deliverables using CAD and related digital design tools. Prepare electrical drawings such as schematics, wiring diagrams, layouts, and details in accordance with project requirements and applicable standards. Utilize Autodesk AutoCAD to develop accurate and complete electrical design documentation; exposure to MicroStation is a plus. Develop deliverables based on a variety of design inputs, redlines, calculations, and engineering direction. Perform basic engineering-related computations, including material quantity takeoffs and dimensional checks. ssist in coordinating design deliverables with other disciplines and project teams to minimize conflicts, errors, and rework. pply project and organizational quality standards to ensure deliverables are accurate, complete, and compliant. Demonstrate a high level of personal accuracy while supporting continuous improvement and change management initiatives. Broaden the use of software applications and drafting tools to evaluate and improve methods, processes, and procedures. Continue learning and staying current with industry standards, systems, document control requirements, and departmental guidelines. May provide limited technical guidance and informal mentorship to less experienced engineering technicians. Focus on meeting the needs of internal project stakeholders while developing a basic understanding of external client drivers and expectations. Proactively seek out and share knowledge related to emerging technologies, tools, and best practices in electrical design. Required Qualifications ssociate degree or technical certification in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience). 2-3 years of drafting experience supporting electrical projects. 2-3 years of hands-on experience with Autodesk AutoCAD in an engineering or design environment. Working knowledge of electrical drafting practices, symbols, and documentation standards. bility to interpret engineering sketches, markups, and design inputs. Strong attention to detail, organization, and documentation accuracy. Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary teams. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting electrical substation projects, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and site layouts. Experience with Bentley MicroStation. Familiarity with BIM, 3D modeling tools, or additional electrical design software. Prior experience working in an engineering consulting, utility, or power delivery environment.
