Job Description Charlotte, NC, USA •Grand Rapids, MI, USA •Detroit, MI, USA •Durham, NC, USA Job Description As a Mechanical Engineer II, you will design and optimize HVAC, plumbing, and building systems for high-performing environments across our national portfolio. You'll lead detailed technical design efforts, construction administration tasks, and interdisciplinary coordination to ensure project success from planning through construction. You'll also contribute to mentoring junior staff, modeling both engineering expertise and team collaboration in a consulting firm environment. Deliver Results Perform design analysis and modeling aligned with Performance Based Design standards, using advanced proficiency in tools such as Revit and AutoCAD. Lead the development of detailed contract and construction documents, ensuring code compliance and high-quality technical specifications. Design and troubleshoot advanced mechanical systems, including HVAC and plumbing systems integrated with Building Automation Systems (BAS). Conduct energy modeling, equipment sizing, load calculations, and system performance analysis to deliver efficient and cost-effective design solutions. Manage multiple small-to-moderate mechanical design assignments while coordinating with cross-disciplinary teams and external consultants. Lead construction administration tasks such as RFIs, shop drawing reviews, and field inspections with minimal supervision. Mentor junior engineers, participate in lessons learned sessions, and support technical training within the team. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure. 5+ years of experience in HVAC and plumbing design for the built environment. 8+ years of post-graduation engineering experience Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and other industry-standard design and modeling tools. Proven experience collaborating on building system design projects in a consulting A/E environment. Strong knowledge of relevant mechanical codes, energy efficiency standards, and integration with fire protection, plumbing, and fuel/gas systems.
