GENERAL SUMMARY This organization designs and manufactures custom-engineered equipment for highly regulated sectors including nuclear, aerospace, and mining. The in-house engineering team develops complete engineering packages that may include code-compliant calculations, component datasheets and specifications, detailed drawings, test procedures, and operation/maintenance instructions. The group is staffed with licensed Professional Engineers. The Mechanical Engineer II role is a mid-level position requiring independent judgment in evaluating, selecting, and applying engineering methods, customer specifications, and technical criteria. Technical Expertise & Industry Knowledge Candidates should have working familiarity with major manufacturing and engineering standards such as: ASME BPVC Section II, VIII & IX ASME B31.3 Process Piping AWS welding codes IBC, AISC, and related structural codes Experience with one or more engineering analysis tools is preferred: SolidWorks Simulation AutoPIPE Advanced Codeware COMPRESS A general understanding of common Quality Management Systems (QMS) used in advanced manufacturing environments is expected, including: ASME NQA-1 (preferred) AS9100 ISO-9001 Role Overview A Mechanical Engineer II will: Perform technical analysis, engineering evaluations, and code-compliant calculations for customer projects, including review of customer drawings and specifications. Develop technical strategies and execution plans to meet customer requirements. Participate in research and development efforts and collaborate with industry experts to advance new technologies. Support internal initiatives aimed at improving operational and engineering capabilities. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Review customer specifications, define engineering execution plans, and guide the design phase to ensure alignment with project requirements. Select and apply appropriate engineering analysis methods, prepare technical calculations and reports, and review work completed by other engineers for accuracy and code compliance. Select components and instrumentation; prepare and validate datasheets; size equipment; define system configurations; and establish design parameters for downstream design activities. Follow established workflows to maintain compliance with internal procedures and quality management systems. Support hand-off of engineering packages to manufacturing. Conduct drawing reviews to verify code compliance, accurate representation of calculations, and adherence to specifications. Review and resolve engineering-related Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs). Provide sound engineering justification for design changes. Develop test procedures and reports supporting product development and qualification efforts. Evaluate and disposition supplier deviation requests tied to project requirements. Prepare Environmental Qualification Plans and Commercial Grade Dedication Plans as required. Perform other related duties as assigned. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES Follow safety guidelines, use PPE as needed, and maintain a safe work environment. Adhere to company policies, maintain reliable attendance, and support team operations. Communicate clearly and professionally with customers and colleagues in all formats. Support positive workplace relationships and participate in problem-solving. Identify and recommend opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs, and increase efficiency. KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong attention to detail; ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word). Strong math competency and ability to interpret CAD drawings. Demonstrated capability with CAD and engineering software tools. Ability to maintain confidentiality and build constructive customer and team relationships. Strong research, analysis, and problem-solving ability. Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly. EDUCATION Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (required). CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSURE Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) / Engineer-in-Training (EIT) required. Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred. WORK EXPERIENCE Minimum of 5 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. WORKING CONDITIONS Primarily office-based role. Work may involve extended sitting, computer use, document handling, walking, standing, bending, and occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. Standard office equipment used regularly. Occasional travel or alternate scheduling may be required based on business needs.
