Stoughton Health is seeking a motivated, skilled, community minded General Surgeon. Stoughton Health is located 10 miles south of Madison, Wisconsin. The hospital is independently operated with formal and informal affiliations to larger health systems in the region. Position Summary: Incumbent is responsible for recognizing complex and changing symptoms. Incumbent is responsible for developing a full treatment regimen ensuring knowledge and integration of new techniques or procedures. Position Full Time Equivalent (FTE): 1.0 Position Overview: The selected candidate will provide the full spectrum of general surgery services, including but not limited to the admission, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients presenting with disorders, illnesses or injuries of the alimentary tract, the abdomen and its contents, breast, skin, soft tissue, head and neck, endocrine system and minor extremity surgery. The performance of upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy as a regular practice component will be expected. Clinical responsibilities include approximately 40% dedicated operating room time and 60% clinic time per week. Call responsibility is 1:4 and every fourth weekend with incentive for greater than 1:4 coverage. A 30-minute response time upon call activation is required. Qualifications: MD or DO Successful completion of an accredited general surgery residency program Board-certified or board-eligible in general surgery Possession of or ability to possess an unrestricted Wisconsin medical license Additional credentialing/privileging qualifications required for membership to Medical Staff. Other Skills and Abilities: Positive working relationships with others, ability to market services with peers and the community Possession of high ethical standards and no history of complaints Reliable and dependable; reports to work as scheduled without excessive absences or tardiness Excellent clinical skills and judgment Experience of at least 5 years in an independent surgical setting/community hospital preferred ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Serves as a staff senior surgeon and surgical consultant. Examines, diagnoses, and treats surgical diseases and injuries. Performs major and minor surgical operations including such procedures as colonoscopy and laparoscopy. When performing these procedures, provides direction to the surgery team. Monitors patients' condition and progress and reevaluates treatments as necessary. Oversees the patient's recovery process, managing pain and potential complications, and coordinating follow-up appointments to monitor their health condition after surgery. Explains procedures and obtains informed consent from patients. Patient care to include hospital rounds for patients who are hospitalized. Works in collaboration with the Hospitalist team. Conducts surgery clinic to screen patients for surgery, to perform minor procedures, and to provide follow-up. Assures completion of appropriate medical records (using the Electronic Health Record) for all patients seen to assure the accumulation and organization of all pertinent clinical data needed to provide comprehensive medical care. Works closely with allied health professionals to utilize and coordinate the services of other health care professionals in the management of the patient's medical, psychological and social problems. Provides on-site coverage and will be expected to market the general surgery services to community and peers when not in clinic/OR. Refers patients requiring care that cannot be performed at Stoughton Health to an appropriate medical facility, providing full clinical information of care provided and diagnostic procedures performed. Observes and adheres to medical staff bylaws and Hospital policies. Provides medical guidance and expert advice to peer medical providers and Stoughton Hospital team. Serves on hospital committees, participates in the quality assurance reviews and assures that policy and procedure manuals are in accordance with credentialing agencies, such as DNV. Leads or participates in at least 12 community education or networking events annually. Honors patients' rights to privacy and confidentiality. Adheres to strict patient, customer and business confidentiality standards. Adheres to all Stoughton Hospital Excellence Together Service standards. (see attached).
