Job DescriptionThis Opportunity WSP is currently looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to join our Boston, MA office Transportation team. An alternate location of Worcester, MA would also be considered. The candidate would lead project tasks or assist project managers with technical design, project coordination and team collaboration efforts for various transportation engineering projects in both the public and private sectors. Tasks may include assistance with the research, conceptual development, design, and constructability of local road, highway, railroad, transit, and utility and drainage system projects. Generates accurate and concise reports, calculations, drawings, and design support documentation. This position is best suited for a senior-level career transportation engineer who is seeking an opportunity to be a part of a growing organization that works collaboratively to provide innovative solutions for our clients with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality. Your Impact Perform professional civil engineering work which includes development of 3D design models, calculations, sketches, plans, and estimates for various transportation improvement projects, including new/widened roadways, intersection improvements, bike and pedestrian facilities, railroad yard and corridor improvements, and bus infrastructure improvements. Analyze data from surveys, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction. Assist with the development of technologies, modeling techniques, design requirements, and operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality of end-users, transportation vehicles/systems, and incorporate future-ready solutions with civil engineering design standards. Verify the characteristics of a site and provide technical assistance on various engineering, design, and construction issues. Maintain quality control standards and procedures that align with company policy. Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and presentations, that include summarizing research with findings and conclusions, generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using calculations, electronic systems, spreadsheets, and software. Assist technical staff and project managers with risk identification and assessment, offering input and analysis with design concepts, construction, mitigation and improvement activities, and remediation projects. Assist with inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, infrastructure, and transportation infrastructure to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits. Assist with preparation of technical proposals, scoping, and labor estimates. Work collaboratively as part of a multi-discipline team of engineers to execute project work on various projects. Work collaboratively with other engineers and planners on projects with infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects. Interface with clients as needed and support business development initiatives. Regularly coordinate and communicate with project teams, manager, and civil team. Attend and participate in project team meetings. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Who You AreRequired Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience). 5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior civil design experience. Engineer in Training Certification. Proficiency in Autodesk Civil3D software; familiarity with MassDOT Design Guidelines and Standards. Experience with design teams on MassDOT and local municipal projects (highway, roadway geometric design, roadway plan production, and drainage design). Knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues, plus desire to learn new technologies. Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction, including rehabilitation and new design. Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements. Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience. Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, accuracy, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment. Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies. Moderate proficiency with technical writing, standard professional office software, standard online data sources, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, appropriate use of AI, and other technology tools. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution. Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek. Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree in Engineering. Compensation: Expected Salary (all locations): $91,000 - $142,000 WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities and specific geographic location.
