General Summary: The Experienced Underwriter will excel in evaluating, selecting, and retaining profitable business within established authority limits. A key aspect of this role is the ability to effectively collaborate with sales teams, brokers, and internal partners. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Engage with sales and service partners to recommend products and plan options that best suit customer needs. Assess and select risks to ensure the profitable acquisition of new cases and the ongoing retention of existing ones. Perform thorough risk assessments on all cases to meet business guidelines, profit targets, and related metrics. Identify and analyze risk trends while proposing actionable recommendations. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the company's products, sales processes, implementation procedures, and influencing market dynamics. Provide reliable, precise, and timely service while nurturing relationships with both internal and external partners. Support training, technical development, and mentorship for junior underwriters. Job Specifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience. Proven proficiency at the Underwriter level. Extensive understanding of product provisions, plan designs, pricing, and contractual benefits. Strong technical expertise in risk selection. Demonstrated knowledge of financial objectives including top-line and bottom-line performance. In-depth understanding of sales/distribution processes and market trends. Strong mentoring and coaching capabilities. Proficient problem-solving and analytical reasoning skills. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. Ability to persuade and negotiate effectively. Capable of working independently as well as part of a team. The base salary range for this position is as follows. Actual compensation will depend on skills, geographical location, and experience. $53,300.00 - $100,700.00 Additionally, Unum provides a comprehensive and competitive benefits package, including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match of up to 5%, plus an additional 4.5% contribution regardless of employee participation.
