Position Type: Administration/Director of Operations Date Posted: 2/17/2026 Location: Transportation/Bldg Operations Date Available: TBD Closing Date: Until Filled DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS (2026-27 School Year) Primary Purpose: Direct and manage maintenance, custodial and transportation operations for district. Maintain physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use may be made at all times. Provide students with a physical learning environment that is safe, clean, attractive, and functional. Qualifications: Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree Valid Texas Drivers License Valid Certification as a noncommercial applicator granted by the Texas Structural Pest Control Board. ( TSPCB) Special Knowledge/ Skills: Ability to manage budget and personnel Ability to coordinate district function Ability to implement policy and procedures Ability to interpret data Ability to read blueprints and schematics Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills Knowledge of project planning and construction principles Knowledge of health and safety regulations Knowledge of building codes, zoning ordinances and the inspection certification process Ability to conduct on-site inspections of all district facilities Knowledge of routine custodial practices and methods Knowledge of equipment, chemicals and materials used in cleaning processes Knowledge of Energy management program development and implementation Knowledge of methods and materials for pest control and TSPCB regulations Ability to direct and manage operations of a large fleet of vehicles Ability to coordinate district function Ability to implement policy and procedures Experience: Administration Leadership experience Major Responsibilities and Duties: Operations: Direct and manage custodial, maintenance and repair, security, central warehouse, and transportation operations of district. Receive and process work orders for repair and maintenance of buildings and grounds. Develop and maintain written departmental procedures for maintenance, repair, operations, and security of all district buildings and equipment. Prepare plans and specifications for contracted repair work and site improvement for submission to purchasing department for bids. Approve bus routes and schedules for all schools in district and develop plan to meet future transportation needs. Coordinate transportation for extracurricular activities and special programs. Respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed. Operate bus and deliver buses to drivers when breakdowns occur. Coordinate and oversee construction projects for the district. Consult with city, county, state, and federal officials to ensure conformity with codes and ordinances regulating district construction projects. Participate in the prequalification or approval process for architects, engineers, and contractors. Conduct on-site inspection of construction projects to ensure conformance with construction documents, programs and needs. Inspect existing facilities and make recommendations for improvements as needed. Establish and recommend priorities for repair projects. Coordinate transition of building operation from general contractor to district upon acceptance of a facility. Supervise warranty correction work. Establish and oversee schedules and procedures for the regular custodial care of all district facilities. Inspect all district buildings and facilities and initiate cleaning and repairs as needed. Make assignment changes and arrange for substitute custodians as needed. Coordinate the moving and delivery of district furniture, books, inventory, etc. Direct and assist in setting up facilities for special events. Schedule and supervise summer custodial projects, including cleaning and refinishing floors. Implement the district integrated pest control program for the use of pesticides, herbicides, and other chemical agents to control pests, rodents, insects, and weeds at district buildings and facilities. Approve use of controlled pesticides according to TSPCB requirements and maintain related documents. Maintain a prioritized list of needed structural and landscape improvements. Ensure that all pesticides used on district property comply with district policy and TSPCB requirements. Maintain physical and computerized files required, including records of complaints, pesticide application records, pesticide labels, and Material Safety Data Sheets. Participate in required TSPCB integrated pest management training courses. Maintain inventory of chemicals, supplies, and equipment and order additional supplies as needed. Policy, Reports, and Law Implement federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in maintenance and transportation area. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required in maintenance and transportation area. Prepare data necessary to process maintenance and custodial payroll. Enforce safety standards that conform with state, federal, and insurance regulations and develop a program of preventive safety. Develop training options and improvement plans to ensure exemplary operation of maintenance, and transportation departments. Comply with applicable personnel policies. Coordinate the storage and handling of construction documents. Maintain inventory of chemicals, supplies, and equipment and order additional supplies as needed. Budget and Inventory Administer maintenance budget and ensure that programs are cost-effective and funds are managed prudently. Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs. Plan and direct inventory and stock control program for equipment and supplies. Initiate purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies. Replace and maintain a current inventory of supplies and parts to avoid delay when reordering. Approve and forward invoices and purchase orders for custodial supplies, maintenance and transportation department to accounting department. Recommend disposal of obsolete equipment and worn out vehicles and recommend purchase of replacement equipment and vehicles when necessary. Assist with the preparation of bidding documents, including notice and instructions to bidders, drawings, and specifications. Personnel Management Assign work to maintenance personnel and oversee completion. Prepare, review, and revise job descriptions in custodial, maintenance and transportation department. Evaluate job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness. Recruit, train, and supervise maintenance personnel and make sound recommendations about personnel placement, transfer, retention, and dismissal. Safety Maintain safety standards in conformance with federal, state, and insurance regulations and develop a program of preventive safety. Ensure that equipment is maintained in operating and optimum condition. Ensure that all school employees who perform pest control have the necessary training and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment. Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures. Inspect tools and equipment for safety and efficiency and perform preventive maintenance as needed. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately. Advise administration about inclement weather conditions that may result in the closing of schools or road hazards. Help with gathering information in investigations of school bus accidents and student safety violations. Help organize and conduct training programs to promote a safe work environment. Ensure that transportation equipment is in excellent operating condition. Perform disaster duty as needed (hurricanes, earthquakes, blizzards, etc.) Perform disaster duty when needed. Attend professional growth activities to keep abreast of innovative techniques in maintenance and transportation operations. Respond to after hours emergencies as needed. Maintain good rapport with parents and community. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise and evaluate performance of skilled craftsmen, head custodians, grounds supervisors, warehouse supervisors, transportation supervisor and support staff assigned to custodial, maintenance and transportation departments. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Frequent districtwide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours; work indoors and outdoors to conduct on-site inspections of all facilities and construction projects, work around machinery with moving parts, work on ladders and scaffolding. Exposure to dampness and humidity, hot and cold temperatures, toxic chemicals , materials and noxious odors.
