Job Description

Veterinarian Join our team as a veterinarian! Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the health and well-being of animals and the community? We are actively seeking a dedicated professional to fill the role of veterinarian on our dynamic team. As a veterinarian with us, you'll be at the forefront of providing essential medical services for the prevention, treatment, and control of diseases and injuries in animals. Beyond that, you'll be a key player in enforcing laws and regulations related to public health, contributing significantly to the overall welfare of both animals and the community. The County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control is one of the largest and most progressive animal control agencies in the United States. We provide animal care and control services in our service areas 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We are looking for a veterinarian who can work in a fast-paced environment and is committed to providing high-quality, effective, and caring service to animals and residents. This position has the following incentives: Annual Salary Effective 1/1/2025: $151,909 - $216,143 10% Department of Animal Care & Control Assignment Bonus $14,000 Annual Bonus for Non-Megaflex Employees after one year of employment with the Department Essential Job Functions: Collects data and laboratory samples, such as blood, tissue, parasites, when indicated for disease investigations and forwards to appropriate diagnostic laboratory; consults with department, private and other public veterinarians and animal owners on disease problems. Prepares required records and reports. Operates a spay/neuter clinic to help reduce and control the animal population of the County. Examines, diagnoses, gives emergency treatment to animal within the animal care center/shelter adjacent to the spay/neuter clinic. Supervises personnel assigned to the clinic and the care center/shelter staff regarding the care of sick animals. Advises the public and department employees on matters within the field of veterinary medicine. Conducts vaccination clinics, provides medical consultations and services during special events such as adoption drives sponsored by outside agencies or the department. Requirements: A valid California State License to practice veterinary medicine A valid California Driver's License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions Desirable Qualifications: Experience working in an animal shelter Additional Information: This is a non-competitive examination. Appointees may be required to work any shift including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Please attach a legible photocopy of the required license to your application at the time of filing.
