As a Lead Software Engineer, you'll spearhead the design, implementation, and operation of vital services that enable real-time decision-making and personalized healthcare solutions. Your expertise will be pivotal in building systems that maintain authoritative states and manage lifecycle transitions effectively in high-demand, low-latency environments. This role is perfect for individuals with a solid foundation in state machine design, idempotency, and distributed systems, ensuring 'exactly-once' execution semantics. You'll have the opportunity to leverage state-of-the-art AI-driven engineering tools to enhance performance, reliability, and scalability. Key Responsibilities: State Machine Architecture & Implementation: Create and uphold state machines for efficient lifecycle transitions. Ensure the proper modeling and validation of state transitions. Model changes based on time and events. Transactional State Memory & Processing: Manage state stores as the definitive source of truth for the system. Support high-volume read/write operations while keeping system integrity intact. Implement controls to maintain idempotency and prevent duplicate actions. Reliable Side Effects: Utilize the outbox pattern for synchronized state updates and event distribution. Avoid the loss or duplication of side effects, ensuring a clear distinction between state changes and event deliveries. Distributed Systems Design: Develop systems resilient to concurrent updates, network issues, and partial failures. Adopt strategies like idempotency keys and locking mechanisms. AI-Assisted Engineering Practices: Utilize AI tools for testing, code reviews, and debugging improvements. Observability & Auditability: Implement comprehensive observability through logging, metrics, and tracing. Ensure complete traceability and auditability of state transitions. Collaboration & Leadership: Work closely with various engineering teams to uphold system reliability. Participate in architecture reviews and mentor junior team members. Qualifications: Over 6 years of experience in backend or platform engineering, showcasing skills in: State machine modeling, transactional state storage, and designing for idempotency. Proficiency in modern programming languages like Java, Kotlin, Go, or Python. Familiarity with AI development tools is a plus. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with outbox patterns and event sourcing. Background in systems requiring strict auditability. Success Indicators: Achieving deterministic and resilient state transitions. Ensuring reliably executed side effects with exactly-once semantics. Facilitating seamless recovery from failures. This role is essential in delivering trust and reliability in automated healthcare platforms, ensuring accurate execution of state transitions and side effects. This position is remote but may require occasional travel for meetings or training. Compensation: $106,900 - $147,000 per year, with opportunities for performance-based bonuses.
