Lead Software Engineer - Storage and AI Innovation

Job Description Join the OCI (Oracle Cloud) AI Infrastructure Innovation team, where we are pioneering the next generation of storage technologies. As a Lead Software Engineer, you will guide the architecture and hands-on development in crucial areas such as distributed processing, transactions, consensus, and storage engines. Responsibilities Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of distributed storage platforms from end to end. Enhance query processing, transaction, and IO performance while working on various components, including query planning/optimization and the execution engine. Create production-ready, high-performance software with an emphasis on durability, correctness, observability, and security. Set performance goals and success metrics; create benchmarks and execute large-scale experiments to assess throughput and latency. Establish consistency, replication, and recovery strategies. Work collaboratively with storage, networking, compute, and control-plane teams to develop integrated solutions on OCI. Mentor engineers, provide technical guidance, and shape multi-year roadmaps and technical standards. Qualifications Required: Demonstrated expertise in distributed systems, with a focus on delivering large-scale, fault-tolerant, and strongly consistent services. Hands-on experience building distributed execution engines. Proven design capability for global scale, including sharding, placement policies, and multi-region replication. Strong software engineering background, including performance profiling and code quality assurance. Experience with cloud architecture on major public cloud platforms, covering observability, orchestration, and incident management. BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience; strong leadership and mentoring skills. Preferred: Knowledge of high-performance IO paths and an understanding of cross-region networking and latency considerations. Solid foundation in consensus protocols and transaction management. Expertise in observability practices at scale, including tracing and metrics. Familiarity with AI and HPC workload patterns and their impact on storage and query processing.
