The Opportunity The Control Systems Project Engineer (Controls Engineer / PLC Engineer) leads control system design, integration, and commissioning activities across complex industrial automation projects. This role independently manages technical execution for assigned projects or major project phases while also supporting larger initiatives led by senior project managers. You will serve as a primary technical contact for customers and mentor junior engineers and field teams. This position is ideal for a highly capable controls engineer who thrives in both field and design environments and is confident leading PLC, HMI, and integrated control system solutions from concept through startup. What You'll DoCore Responsibilities • Lead control system design, development, and integration activities • Oversee PLC, HMI, and SCADA configuration and troubleshooting • Lead startup and commissioning of industrial control systems • Conduct and lead Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) • Develop instrumentation specifications for complex systems • Interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams • Identify discrepancies between field conditions and design documents • Ensure adherence to Quality Management System (QMS) standards • Review technical documentation for accuracy, clarity, and completeness Collaboration & Communication • Serve as primary technical point of contact for assigned projects • Communicate proactively with customers and trade partners • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians • Deliver detailed feedback on project progress and technical risks • Identify scope gaps, risks, and mitigation strategies early Quality, Safety & Process • Ensure projects are delivered on schedule and within budget • Enforce quality standards and commissioning best practices • Maintain compliance with site safety requirements • Promote a collaborative and accountable team culture What We're Looking ForEducation & Experience • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline • 4+ years of controls engineering or system integration experience • 2+ years experience in a Lead Control Systems Engineer or equivalent role Skills & Qualifications • Advanced experience with PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems • Strong understanding of complex control system architecture • Experience with instrumentation, industrial networking, and IT integration • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs and electrical schematics • Proven field commissioning and startup experience • Strong risk identification and problem-solving skills • Decisive decision-making ability • Excellent customer-facing communication skills • Ability to work independently and lead technical efforts • Valid driver's license and authorization to work required Preferred: Experience leading small-to-mid-sized projects in industrial or mission-critical environments.
