We're hiring a Class A Machinist with proven experience programming in Okuma's IGF, and setting up and running Okuma Multus B300 and B400 platforms. Position Purpose The Class A Machinist independently performs complex CNC setups, creates and optimizes G & M code programs, designs fixtures, and leads troubleshooting efforts. This role is essential in high-mix/low-volume environments and often serves as a floor mentor and problem-solver across shifts. What You'll Do: Program complex parts using Okuma's IGF control system Set up and run Okuma Multus B300 and B400 machines to tight tolerances (typically ±.001") Collaborate with CAM and engineering to improve part strategies and programming workflows Develop and document setup sheets, tooling strategies, and fixture designs Perform first article inspections and ensure in-process quality control Troubleshoot production issues in real time, including tool wear, finish deviation, and dimensional issues Provide feedback for continuous process and program improvements Core Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary machining education strongly preferred 8+ years of experience operating and programming CNC mills/lathes 4+ years specifically programming with IGF on Okuma lathes or Multus platforms Skilled in multi-axis CNC programming and use of CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360) Proven setup and operation experience on Okuma Multus B300/B400 or similar multi-axis equipment High fluency in blueprint reading, GD&T, and aerospace tolerancing standards Skilled with micrometers, indicators, bore gauges, and related inspection tools Ability to develop and troubleshoot programs, select tooling, and design work holding independently Demonstrated experience with fixture design, setup optimization, and cycle time reduction Strong leadership, communication, and process improvement skills Preferred Qualifications: Experience with tight turnaround, low-to-medium volume production Familiarity with ERP systems (JobBOSS2 a plus) Experience machining exotic materials and aerospace-grade metals Exposure to 5S and Lean Manufacturing principles Key Responsibilities Programming & Setup Leadership Create, edit, and optimize CNC programs for part precision, repeatability, and speed Lead setups for complex parts, including custom fixturing, probing routines, and zeroing strategy Design jigs, fixtures, or process aids to improve repeatability or reduce setup time Technical Troubleshooting & Process Optimization Diagnose and resolve advanced machining issues related to surface finish, tool wear, vibration, or tolerance stack-up Analyze cycle times and suggest toolpath or fixture modifications to improve throughput Partner with engineering on DFM feedback, new part trials, and prototype development Quality & Team Collaboration Perform in-process inspections using micrometers, bore gauges, thread gauges, and comparators Work closely with QC to resolve inspection holds and contribute to corrective actions Mentor Class C/B machinists in setup methods, best practices, and problem-solving Documentation & Preventive Maintenance Maintain clean and revision-controlled setup sheets, tool lists, and programming records Conduct routine machine maintenance, fill out pre-shift checklists, and escalate abnormalities promptly Upload setup documentation and in-process revisions to JobBOSS as needed Provide feedback to improve routing clarity, traveler instructions, and BOM accuracy Physical & Environmental Requirements Full-time, on-site position Fast-paced, collaborative production floor with high mix, low volume Standing and walking for 8-10 hours per shift Reaching, lifting, and handling items up to 50 lbs Work environment includes machine shop conditions: noise, coolant exposure, and PPE usage Systems & Tools Used CNC mills and lathes (HAAS, Okuma, Fanuc, or equivalent) CAM software (Mastercam, Fusion 360) ERP/job tracking systems (e.g., JobBOSS) Inspection tools and digital documentation platforms Success Profile The ideal Class A Machinist is a highly autonomous, technically gifted problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced, precision-driven environment.
