General Summary: The Senior Underwriting Consultant will exemplify expert risk evaluation, selection, and retention of profitable business within their authority limits. Strong collaboration with sales teams, brokers, and internal partners is essential in this role. The consultant will also assist in training, technical development, and mentoring of junior underwriters, while guiding and influencing others to support changes and drive profitable results. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Collaborate with sales and service partners to tailor products and plan options that align with our customers' needs. Assess and select risks to ensure profitable acquisition of new cases and ongoing retention of in-force cases. Conduct thorough risk assessments on all cases, ensuring compliance with business guidelines, target profit metrics, and identifying risk trends with actionable recommendations. Contribute to the formulation of policies and procedures that support product development initiatives. Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the Company’s product offerings, sales processes, and market dynamics. Deliver reliable, accurate, and timely service while fostering strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Serve as a technical resource for less experienced underwriters, providing constructive feedback on case decisions while fostering development. Mentor and coach team members, providing valuable input to management regarding mentee performance. Job Specifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant business experience Proven proficiency at a Senior Underwriter level Extensive knowledge of product provisions, plan designs, pricing, and benefits Advanced technical expertise in risk selection Comprehensive understanding of company objectives pertaining to revenue and expenses Thorough understanding of the sales process and current market trends Strong mentoring and coaching capabilities Exceptional problem-solving skills Outstanding analytical thinking and reasoning skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Solid organizational abilities and capacity to manage multiple priorities effectively Highly skilled in persuasive communication and negotiation Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team A strong commitment to quality and personal accountability for outcomes This position is based at our headquarters in Chattanooga, TN. The base salary range for this position is $63,500.00 to $120,000.00. Actual pay will depend on skills, geographical location, and experience. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual plans.
