PURPOSE OF THE JOB The Claims Triage Associate for Workers' Compensation is essential in assessing and directing claims at their inception. This role involves reviewing incoming claims to evaluate severity and urgency, gathering crucial information through initial contact, and ensuring efficient communication within the first ten days of claim management. The Associate will ensure claims files are complete and accurate before passing on to the indemnity claims team. A critical objective of this role is to equip you with the knowledge and abilities necessary to manage a caseload of 70+ files effectively. You will be expected to complete the SIP exam or obtain a Claims Examiner designation within your first year for California, with possible additional licensing for other jurisdictions as needed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Review and analyze incoming workers' compensation claims to assess severity, determine benefits owed, and ensure medical treatment is clearly communicated to the injured worker. Engage with injured workers, employers, medical providers, and internal teams to collect initial information. Document claim details and triage decisions in the claims management system effectively. Identify potential fraud indicators and escalate concerns when necessary. Adhere to company policies and comply with state regulatory requirements. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the triage process. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position does not include supervisory responsibilities. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High school diploma or equivalent required; an Associate or Bachelor's degree is preferred. A minimum of 1+ year of relevant office or customer service experience. Prior experience in the Workers' Compensation industry is highly preferred. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Basic understanding of workers' compensation terminology and claims processes is preferred. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Proficient in computer use, including claims management software and Microsoft Office Suite. Able to thrive in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment. Strong analytical skills with a keen attention to detail. Effective time management and ability to follow through on tasks. Team-oriented with a sense of urgency in executing deliverables. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This role is primarily office-based, with no unusual physical demands. Employees will often sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear. WORK ENVIRONMENT This position takes place in an office setting, requiring frequent use of a computer, telephone, copier, and other standard office equipment. The current salary range for this position is $22.54 - $35.54. This range does not include fringe benefits or potential bonuses.
