OverviewSupervises and coordinates activities of employee engaged in activities to improve productivity and processes.Responsibilities Applies a thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of engineering as related to the variety of aspects affecting his or her organization. Applies knowledge and expertise acquired through progressive experience to resolve crucial issues and unique conditions. Keeps informed of new methods and developments affecting his or her organization. Serves as a technical specialist for the organization of the application of advance concepts, principles, and methods in an assigned area. Interprets, organizes, executes, and coordinates assignments. Plans, schedules, or coordinates the preparation of documents or activities for multiple major projects, or is responsible for an entire program of an organization. Review operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable polices and performance measures. Interacts with clients, customers, officials, contractors, and others. Leads project meetings and makes presentations. Represents the organization and maintains liaison with individuals and related organizations. Set, demonstrate and enforce balanced priorities and high standards of VNSFS performance with emphasis on safety, environment, quality, mission progress, procedure compliance, subcontractor oversight, feedback and improvement, and personal conduct. Ensure that personnel have the competence commensurate with their assigned responsibilities for VNSFS-related work direction, control, and oversight. Communicating VNSFS roles, responsibilities and accountabilities, and feedback and improvement actions/initiatives. Recommends, plans and implements Company policy in order to establish and maintain a safe work environment; and ensures compliance with appropriate federal and state safety and health regulations. Comply with VNSFS policies and procedures. Directs the activities of a group within a major department within an operations center. Translates corporate/company policy and procedures into productive employee activity. Demonstrates diplomacy and persuasiveness in working with others (subordinates, peers, higher management levels) to obtain desired results. Contacts within the Company. Provides leadership and motivation directing the activities of a smaller group with a department. Depending on department size, may have subordinate supervisors. Requires training and experience in the engineering field (or discipline). Ensure team is continuously improving processes. Performs performance reviews with employees and ensures employee performance is meeting expectations. Provides projects with capable resources. Works with Project Managers to access resources needs and obtain personnel as required. Ensure staff is trained for their assignments. Provide primary input to HR in evaluating potential new hires within discipline. May be asked to serve additional roles including those as individual contributor (Technical Lead, Project Manager, Engineer, etc.) Accountabilities: For Engineering Staff to: Protect health and safety Resource management and capability development Focus by giving clear direction and setting clear expectations Representation of the Engineering Team in interaction with the Vice President or Director for the purpose of obtaining resources, and securing needed information or decisions from the supervisor on major work problems and issues that arise To Vice President or Director for: Stewardship of assigned resources through baseline control and reporting Complete approved Engineering Plans on time, on budget and in accordance with expectations, including delivery in a safe and secure manner Self-Assessment of the Engineering organization Compliance with VNSFS policies and procedures QualificationsEducation & Certifications: BS degree in related engineering fieldPE certification is preferred Experience & Requirements: 15+ years of experience in engineering related field Travel:Occasional travel to project sites as requested by clients may be required. Work Environment:This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
