The Manager of Paralegals in Training (PIT) reports to the Manager of Legal Training and is responsible for the hiring, training oversight, coaching, development, and daily management of the Paralegals in Training team. This role ensures PIT team members are learning and consistently following firm processes, contributing appropriately within the POD structure, and developing the technical skills and professional readiness required to transition into a Paralegal position when competency and role availability align. Success in this position is dependent on building and maintaining a high-performing training pipeline that supports firm growth while protecting quality and client outcomes. The PIT program is not time-bound to a fixed duration; progression is determined by demonstrated competency, performance standards, and paralegal role availability. The Manager of PIT must be a subject matter expert in the internal processes, systems, and expectations for paralegal work and must be able to coach trainees through progressive development while maintaining strong morale and culture. Through coordinated oversight with the Manager of Legal Training and collaboration with paralegal leadership, the Manager of PIT is responsible for ensuring training standards are executed consistently, trainee performance is measured and documented, and readiness decisions are made with clarity, fairness, and accountability. This role partners closely with Legal Training, Legal Operations, and paralegal leadership to continuously improve the PIT program without sacrificing team engagement or culture. Key Responsibilities Oversee the PIT talent pipeline, including hiring coordination, interviewing, onboarding, and workforce planning for the PIT program. Manage PIT performance and outcomes, ensuring trainees are progressing through training benchmarks, consistently applying processes, and meeting quality expectations. Ensure PIT team members are learning, following, and consistently applying firm workflows, including adherence to POD processes, documentation standards, and task ownership expectations. Coach and develop PIT team members through structured training plans, shadowing, skills validation, and progressive assignment of responsibilities. Maintain a clear process for readiness assessment and promotion recommendation, ensuring PITs are advanced when they demonstrate competency and when paralegal roles are available. Conduct weekly 1:1s with PIT team members to review performance, development, confidence, and readiness indicators; provide clear next steps and expectations. Maintain accurate documentation of training progress, coaching conversations, performance feedback, and readiness status to support fair, consistent decision-making. Partner with the Manager of Legal Training to refine training content, practical application components, and evaluation methods to improve consistency and outcomes. Monitor and manage PIT workload to ensure trainees are appropriately challenged, supported, and set up for success without sacrificing quality. Act as a liaison between the PIT program and paralegal leadership to ensure PIT contributions align with POD needs and workflow priorities. Support firm initiatives through operational excellence, process adherence, and consistent development of talent. Champion a culture of high performance, accountability, learning, and professionalism within the PIT program. Key Outcomes / KPIs PIT trainees demonstrate measurable progression toward competency through: skills validation / testing outcomes (where applicable) quality audits and error-rate improvement over time adherence to process and documentation standards Consistent, well-documented coaching and performance management: weekly 1:1 completion and documentation rate documented development plans for each PIT Strong placement readiness: percentage of PITs assessed "ready" based on competency successful transition outcomes once promoted (early performance indicators in first 30-60 days) Retention, engagement, and culture within PIT cohort Leadership Expectations Embody and lead with firm core values daily.
