Under direction of the Director of Public Works, or designee, the Associate Engineer performs engineering services in the public setting, collaborating with multiple stakeholders. Examples of assignments include- Responds to inquiries regarding topics such as retaining walls, storm drains, sanitary sewer, sidewalks, right of way encroachments, etc. Addresses traffic operational and safety concerns Serves as lead for staff committees Leads Steps, Lanes and Paths activities Plans, develops, schedules, budgets and implements assigned projects that may include: Streets and Sanitary Sewers Rehabilitation Program City parks and facility restoration/rebuilding projects Corridor and traffic improvements Landslide Repairs Program Curb, gutter, sidewalk and curb-ramp rehabilitation Ideal CandidateEXPERIENCE & BACKGROUND- The ideal candidate will be an engineering professional with at least four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience and demonstrated knowledge of the nuances and complexities of civil engineering in a municipal context. This person is a self-starter, hungry to learn, and looking for a position that affords them the opportunity to grow professionally and expand their skills. As a proven collaborator comfortable in lead roles, the ideal candidate is adept in effective communication and displays superior customer service skills. EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS- The ideal candidate has a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and possession of an Engineer in Training Certificate. Certification as a Qualified Stormwater Practitioner is preferred. A Professional Engineering License is preferred. This position is eligible for consideration of hybrid telework options and flexible hours following successful completion of a probationary period.
