This critical leadership position is designed for an experienced RN leader with a deep understanding of perioperative services, strong operational management expertise, and the ability to inspire, mentor, and develop a team of more than 60 direct reports across a busy, 12-suite Operating Room environment. The Nurse Manager of the Operating Room will be responsible for the overall clinical, operational, and financial management of surgical services, ensuring efficient patient throughput, adherence to quality standards, and continuous improvement of care delivery. The facility is a Bariatric Center of Excellence, with high surgical volumes in orthopaedic total joint procedures (50+ cases daily on average). This role requires a leader with a proven ability to balance hands-on clinical expertise with strategic oversight, while also navigating unionized environments and fostering collaboration with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams. Job specification Candidate requirements Job specification • Lead and manage all operations of a 12-suite Operating Room with an average of 50 surgical cases daily, including oversight of scheduling, staffing, resource allocation, and workflow optimization. • Supervise and mentor a team of approximately 60 direct reports, including RNs, surgical techs, and support staff. • Collaborate with physicians, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary teams to promote high-quality surgical outcomes and patient safety. • Maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards while ensuring a safe environment for patients and staff. • Oversee quality initiatives and performance improvement projects, ensuring implementation of best practice models across perioperative services. • Manage business operations, including budget oversight, cost containment, vendor relations, and effective utilization of equipment and supplies. • Implement and evaluate patient care delivery models, ensuring evidence-based practices are integrated across surgical services. • Respond to and resolve patient, family, and staff concerns regarding perioperative care and services. • Maintain clinical expertise and provide supervision, competency validation, and direct care when necessary. Candidate requirements • Current California Registered Nurse (RN) License (required at hire). • American Heart Association BLS Certification. • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). • Minimum 5 years of recent Operating Room RN experience in an acute hospital setting. • Minimum 4 years of RN leadership experience, including Charge Nurse, Supervisor, or Manager roles (with at least 2-3 years as RN Manager or Supervisor). • At least 5 years of experience in patient care delivery. • Minimum 5 years of experience in healthcare operations, clinical care, or related business management.Preferred • CNOR certification. • Experience managing in a unionized environment. • MSN strongly preferred.
