MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education - High school diploma or equivalent. Incumbents must be currently enrolled in an accredited radiology program. Experience - One year (1) of coursework completed or radiographic positioning coursework completed in an accredited radiology program. A minimum of twenty (20) mandatory competency exams must be performed upon application. Licenses & Certification -Current enrollment in a radiologic technology program approved by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and must possess a Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. The radiologic technologist Student position is a transitional, entry-level role for individuals currently enrolled in an accredited radiologic technology program. Upon successful completion of the educational program and graduation, the incumbent is expected to transition to a Radiologic Technologist (RT) position within 60 days of graduation date. Knowledge & Skills - Knowledge of the physics of Radiology, such as kilo voltage, milliamperes and time. Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of methods, techniques, and quality control required for processing radiographic images with optimum results. Skills in obtaining adequate digital diagnostic X-Ray views on patients for which normal techniques and methods are not possible, requiring techniques which deviate from the normal. Ability to perform digital radiologic examinations in a variety of conditions, such as emergency trauma and also have the ability to manage patient care in trauma situations. Knowledge of common business, medical electronic health record and picture archiving and communication system (PACS) software applications. Ability to communicate courteously and effectively to patients, other staff and the general public. JOB SUMMARY The purpose of the position is to aid the radiologic technologist in performing specific radiologic examinations and perform certain routine radiologic examinations, as described in the Radiology Department's Policies and Procedures. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in hospital and clinic environments. There is common exposure to infectious communicable disease, potentially hazardous chemicals, and biohazardous materials. Incumbents must be aware of all risks involved and be willing to take precautions as required and requested. Special attire may be required as protection against infection and radiation. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Work requires long periods of standing and walking. Working with patients requires recurring bending, stooping, stretching and positioning patients. The ability to lift 50 pounds is required to perform positional duties. Incumbents will also have to cope with constant changes in a stressful environment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSSatisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following: Responsible for staying up to date in policy and protocol amendments, positioning techniques and quality control of radiology equipment. Responsible for the proper identification of patients, including correct hospital number and proper identification of all radiographic images. Review each X-Ray request to determine necessary images needed for the completion of the exam. Responsible for the cleanliness of work area and equipment assigned. Performs required duties in technologist work area, supply room and office as needed. Provide technical support to staff members and physicians and assists with troubleshooting and basic inquiries involved in the daily operation of computers and radiology equipment. Responsible for acquiring professional licensures, certifications/registrations and required continuing education as mandated by enrolled radiologic program and the ARRT.
