UTHealth Houston is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to join the Data Center Infrastructure team within DCO. This team focuses on server support, data center operations and maintenance, virtualization technologies, storage, and backups. Primary responsibilities include server administration, server virtualization, application systems and support, server and network racks, fibre channel switches, cooling systems, power supplies, and cabling infrastructure. Additionally, work closely with application owners to assist with performance tuning, troubleshooting installations, and upgrades. The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) is the most comprehensive academic health center in the UT System. Data Center Operations (DCO), under the direction of the Infrastructure Team at UTHealth Houston, operates the university's primary data centers for the organization. DCO also administers standards for multiple data centers that are a part of the UTHealth campus. DCO is comprised of three primary areas: Infrastructure & Operational Support, Database & Application Support, and Datacenter & Infrastructure. Technical Qualifications would include:Required Skills: Responsible for all procedures and processes necessary to ensure the safety and integrity of NAS and Fibre Channel storage systems. Includes Dell Isilon and PowerStore, NetApp NAS, and Pure array. Perform storage allocation and file system management (Zoning, LUN sizing, RAID Implementations, volume configuration, and allocation) activities. Perform maintenance on disk arrays, NAS devices, Fibre Channel directors, and appliances to include upgrades and firmware. Configure and administer Storage Area Network (SAN) and associated components, including Fibre Channel switch administration to include Cisco MDS switches. Perform storage analysis, capacity planning, and performance planning of storage components. Determines and implements security and performance improvement activities related to storage systems. Support and process change requests received for all storage administration. Configure and administer data restore and disaster recovery according to RPOs and RTOs defined by the business for any given business-critical application or service level. Communication and Teamwork: Ability to communicate both written and orally to a wide variety of audiences. Must be able to think logically about solving problems and implement workable solutions. Must be able to resolve all existing and newly discovered problems to move the project towards completion. Availability: UTHealth System Administrators support a variety of mission-critical and 24x7 patient care-focused systems that must be readily available. To support these systems, scheduled and non-scheduled after-hours work is often required. There is also an on-call rotation that has been scheduled months in advance to help triage issues after hours and on holidays. Additional skills that would be a plus for this position: Data lake/Data Warehouse/Data Lakehouse experience PixStor experience Position Summary: Responsible for complex activities related to system administration. Ensures that the long-term requirements of multi-system operations, security, and administration are included in the organization's overall information systems planning. Position Key Accountabilities: 1. Responsible for all procedures and processes necessary to ensure the safety and integrity of organizational servers, data systems, file structures, computer operating systems, and computer system software. 2. Responsible for all activities related to system administration. 3. Assigns personnel to various projects, directs their activities, and evaluates their work. 4. Responsible for the installation, maintenance, configuration, security and integrity of computer operating systems and supporting software. 5. Implements operating system enhancements that will improve the reliability, safety, and performance of the system. 6. Performs programming and testing. 7. Conducts studies of projected enhancements in hardware and software and presents recommendations to management. 8. Conducts performance measurement and evaluation of the computer system. 9. Determines and implements security and performance improvement activities. 10. Participates in all phases of total system planning and in the generation of justifications and specifications for facility requirements and enhancements. 11. Implements system software projects. 12. Plans and supervises the training of systems administrator personnel. 13. Presents technical briefings. 14. Participates in the formulation and implementation of installation standards and procedures. 15. Attends professional conferences and acts in place of the supervisor as needed. 16. Performs other duties as assigned. Certification/Skills: Ability to configure and administer diverse servers and computer operating systems. Familiar with WEB technology, database concepts, and networking. Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree, training in information technology, or related four years of relevant experience in lieu of education Minimum Experience: Three (3) years of experience in information technology support and systems administration in diverse environments. Physical Requirements: Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects. Security Sensitive: This position is a security-sensitive position, as defined by Texas Education Code §51.215 and Texas Government Code §411.094. To the extent that a position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Texas Business and Commerce Code §117.001(2), the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired for and to continue to be employed in that position. Personnel in such positions, and similarly situated state contractors, will be routinely reviewed to determine whether factors such as criminal history or continuous connections to the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the applicant, employee, or contractor from maintaining the security or integrity of the infrastructure. A foreign adversary is a nation listed in 15 C.F.R. §791.4. Residency Requirement: Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
