Company: Marin General Hospital dba MarinHealth Medical Center Compensation Range: $30.59 - $42.83 Work Shift: 8 Hour (days) (United States of America) Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Job Description Summary: This position is primarily responsible for the coordination of scheduling of procedures and services between Surgical Service departments and the Anesthesia Department. The Patient Scheduler is the primary point of contact between the Perioperative Business Office and physician's offices in the scheduling of elective and non elective surgery. The incumbent is expected to prepare, enter, correct, colligate, and assimilate information and data that will support the organization. This position interfaces with vendor representatives, surgeons, offices, and staff to ensure that all equipment, items, instruments are coordinated for surgical procedures in collaboration with perioperative forecasting. Responsible for performing other duties as required or assigned to support the Perioperative Business Office. Job Requirements, Prerequisites and Essential Functions: Job Specifications: Education: High school diploma. Experience: Working knowledge of medical terminology required. One year prior surgical scheduling experience preferred. License and Certifications: Integrative Agitation Management (IAM) Required within 30 days of hire Prerequisite Skills: Comprehensive knowledge of requisite McKesson modules or other scheduling programs. Experience and familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook as well as the ability to generate practical documents. Ability to operate various office machines such as telephone, FAX machines, copiers, etc. Ability to work independently within department and within hospital policies. Ability to function within a high-tension level and noisy environment. Good verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively and tactfully and to represent MGH appropriately when interacting with public, staff, physicians and other departments. Primary Customer Served (Age Specific Criteria): This position is not a patient care position, and as such, this section does not apply. Patient Privacy (HIPAA Compliance): Employees in this position have access to protected health information. The protected health information a person in this position can access includes demographics, date of service, insurance/billing, medical record summary information, and all other information that may be contained in patient records. This position requires patient health information to perform the functions outlined as part of this position description. Duties And Responsibilities: Essential (Not Modifiable) Schedules elective surgery and Cardiac Catheterization Lab cases. Schedules non-elective surgery, procedures and treatments as necessary; confers with OR Charge Nurse. Cancels, rearranges surgery cases and daily schedules. Notifies physician's offices concerning changes. Notifies anesthesiologists of all patient and physician requests. Prepares daily operative schedule and a final updated schedule with all cases and assigned staff and distributes to appropriate locations. Maintains daily updated future schedule. Notifies nursing/ORT staff and OR Materials Manager of special equipment/implant needs. Maintains computerized Surgical Cases Journal. Prepares, enters and maintains monthly statistics and files for the OR, Anesthesia, Surgeon, Orthopedic and weekend data. Checks credentials and privileges of physicians' scheduling surgery. Reports problems to Administrative Director of Perioperative Services. Duplicates materials as needed. Schedules and arranges for anesthesia cases for ECTs, ovum retrievals, cardio versions, spinal blocks, and Interventional Radiology. Performs other duties as required or assigned.
