Salary: $21.00 Hourly Location : Bauman Community Pool - Middleton, WI Job Type: Seasonal Job Number: 2026-00013 Department: Parks and Recreation Division: Parks and Rec - Recreation and Aquatics Opening Date: 02/09/2026 Closing Date: 3/8/2026 11:59 PM Central FLSA: Non-Exempt Bargaining Unit: NR General Description The Swim Lesson Coordinator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Learn to Swim Program ensuring that all safety and teaching guidelines are followed. The Swim Lesson Coordinator will conduct regular evaluations of the swim lesson program and communicate with patrons to answer questions and resolve concerns surrounding the swim lesson program as well as assist in the with orientation and training of Swim Lesson staff. The Swim Lesson Coordinator works cooperatively with the is under the direct supervision of the Aquatic Manager. Job FunctionsAssists in the planning and organization of the comprehensive lesson program, including developing, implementing, and evaluation of all courses in the Learn to Swim Program. Assist in recruiting, training, evaluation, and assigning work schedules for WSI And Swim Lesson employees. Maintains proper records and reports as needed and required by American Red Cross standards, and City policy for maintenance, attendance, registration, and other administrative matters. Keeps accurate and current inventory of all equipment, supplies, and other needs. Ensures positive public relations and responsible for rectifying problems with patrons and staff in an efficient and professional manner. Be familiar with the Emergency Action Plan and know responsibilities in times of emergency and administers any necessary emergency or first aid. Establishes and maintains a working environment conducive to positive morale, individual style, quality, creativity and teamwork. Be 30 minutes early to prepare pool for lessons. Be prepared with suit (in case have to assist in water). Ability to prepare lesson plans and help staff develop lesson plans. Ability to demonstrate skills in water. Ability to teach instructors how to break down skills or demonstrate skills. Assist with swimming lesson set-up and clean-up, including preparing the pool for open swim. Evaluate weather and water conditions in order to determine if it is safe to use the pool. Close the pool when necessary following the prescribed procedures. Help facilitate out of water activities (i.e. Safety Days) when participants cannot be in the water. Inform aquatic manager of any accidents or injuries and complete accident forms when necessary. Enforce and follow the pool rules and any other public health guidelines. Communicate with other Water Safety Instructors and supervisors the need for additional assistance or equipment. Perform other duties as directed by the Aquatic Manager or Assistant Director. Qualifications and CompetenciesPossesses strong communication and leadership skills. Ability to teach skill progressions, develop lesson plans and facilitate class management. Ability to follow and enforce rules, verbally communicate with the public and staff effectively, and interpret and explain policies and procedures related to the Bauman Community Pool. Ability to mediate, troubleshoot, problem solve and diffuse potential difficulties. Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment involving customer inquiries and/or complaints using services and/or facility. Position requires basic computer proficiency to utilize Recreation Management software, Microsoft Office products and American Red Cross documents. Working Conditions and Physical DemandsMinimum Age 20 Current American Red Cross CPR & First Aid/AED certification required. Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certificate required. Current Red Cross Lifeguard certification is preferred. Current Red Cross WSI Instructor Trainer certification desirable. One year supervisory or leadership in swim lessons experience preferred.
