Primary Purpose: The Middle School Athletic Trainer provides athletic healthcare services for student-athletes across three middle school campuses. Primary assignments will be at the middle school level, but responsibilities are not exclusive to these campuses. The athletic trainer will receive support and collaboration from the high school athletic training staff. This position is responsible for injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation; communication with coaches, parents, and healthcare providers; and ensuring compliance with UIL, district, and state guidelines. This role requires independent decision-making, strong organizational skills, and the ability to travel between multiple campuses. Education/Certification Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or related field Texas Board of Athletic Trainers License (LAT) or Certification by the Board of Certification (BOC) Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification Experience Experience working with secondary school athletes Experience managing multiple sites or schedules Knowledge of UIL regulations and Texas school athletic policies Major Responsibilities and Duties: • Assist in the planning and implementation of a comprehensive athletic injury and illness prevention program for student athletes. • Attend practice sessions and athletic contests as assigned by AD, Assistant AD and Head Athletic Trainer. • Be available for HOME events (7th through Varsity) as assigned. • Establish and maintain effective communication with students, parents, medical and paramedical personnel, coaches, and other staff. • Prepare athletes for games and practices by conducting evaluations and using tape, wraps, splints, braces, & other protective devices as needed. • Respond to emergencies and make quick, independent judgments about how to deal with injuries. • Identify acute injuries and provide first-aid triage, including assessing injuries and deciding whether an athlete should seek further medical attention and should discontinue participation in the athletic event. • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in establishing specific procedures to be carried out by a coach or student athletic trainer in the event of a medical emergency. • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents including doctor, accident, and treatment records as required. • Maintain an inventory of training supplies and equipment. • Assist with the organization and monitoring of UIL required physical examinations for all athletics 7-12. • Assist the Head Athletic trainers with all Staff Development pertaining to athlete safety in accordance w/ State mandates and UIL Policies. • Communicate utilizing the prescribed chain of command. • Perform other duties assigned by the Athletic Director and Head Athletic Trainer. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: Exercise equipment and devices including stationary bike, pulleys, weights, whirlpool, paraffin bath, ultrasound equipment, and cold packs; automated external defibrillator (AED) Posture: Prolongedstanding; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting Motion: Continual walking; moderate reaching Lifting: Frequently moderate lifting or carrying (15-44 pounds) Environment: Work outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather) and inside; exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases; frequent districtwide and statewide travel Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent prolonged and irregular hours
