Job Description: Job title: Journeyman Electrician Positions Needed: 1 Job Location: Brevard County - Government Center/Viera/Travels Countywide Work schedule : Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Performs skilled crafts and trades work in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of facility and/or industrial electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures. Job length: Direct Hire SSN Need: Yes Job Description: Under general supervision, performs skilled crafts and trades work in the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of electrical systems, equipment, fixtures and structures. An employee in this class performs duties in accordance with standard practices of electrical trade and is allowed considerable latitude in determining methods and work procedures. WATER AND WASTEWATER: Responsible for the electrical workings of all County wastewater and freshwater plants and lift stations in an area of the County. Repairs and restores to service lift stations and water and wastewater plants, electrical equipment, transformers, feeders, and automatic controls. Performs electrical preventative maintenance and inspections on lift stations and plants. Tests emergency equipment. Maintains and refurbishes electric motors, motor starters, electrical/mechanical alternators, air pumps and motors. Lays out, builds and maintains complex controllers and switchboards and redesigns control panels to satisfy specific needs. Designs, estimates, orders, installs and tests electrical wiring and modifications of lift stations, plants, buildings and structures. Keeps records of material and equipment purchased, the location, and daily work performed. Performs related work as required. SOLID WASTE: Monitors the switchboard room recording readings from the main and auxiliary switchboards. Maintains switchboard room controller. Corrects, as quickly as possible, electrical problems that occur in the main and auxiliary switchboards. Maintains and repairs all motors and control circuits of the central disposal plant and the transfer stations. Stops and starts up electrical equipment in order that mechanical and electrical repairs and maintenance may be performed. Installs and maintains power and lighting circuits at Solid Waste facilities. Maintains and repairs portable equipment, such as welding machinery and cranes. Performs related work as required. FACILITIES: Installs, maintains, alters and/or repairs transformers, generators, high voltage lighting, motors, controllers, starters, welders and fixed and portable equipment County-wide. Designs, installs, and tests electrical work for additions and new construction projects and remodels electrical fixtures and connections. Coordinates new electrical work requests, setting up work and ordering materials. Installs wiring for air-conditioning and heating equipment. Installs and repairs fluorescent, industrial and general lighting fixtures, connections, circuit breaker panels, switches, and relays. Locates and corrects power failures and motor problems on electrically operated machinery. Reads and interprets blueprints, diagrams and sketches which accompany assignments. Records material used and prices for each job on request form. Performs related work as required. REQUIREMENTS: Job Education and Experience: WATER/WASTEWATER OR SOLID WASTE: Three (3) years of experience in industrial electrical systems. FACILITIES: Three (3) years of experience in commercial electrical systems. Successful completion of coursework in electrical technology at an accredited vocational-technical school or community college may be substituted for the required experience on a year for year basis [30 semester (45 quarter) hours = one year experience. Additional qualifying education and/or experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must obtain a valid Florida operator's license prior to employment. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: (Note: The knowledge, skills and abilities identified in this class specification represent those needed to perform the duties of this class. Additional knowledge, skills and abilities may be applicable for individual positions.) Thorough knowledge of standard tools, materials, and methods of the electrical trade. Thorough knowledge of the principles of electricity. Thorough knowledge of electrical codes. Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade. Good knowledge of math to perform voltage and other electrical calculations. Skill in the use and care of standard tools, electrical equipment, and testing devices. Ability to interpret and work on technical sketches and blueprints. Ability to install, alter, repair, and maintain electrical systems. Ability to follow and transmit oral and written instructions effectively. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This is moderate physical work. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work may involve exposure to dangerous levels of electricity, moving machinery, hostile inmates in a detention center, heat, odors, noise, and the outdoors. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This is heavy physical work. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work may involve exposure to electrical and mechanical hazards, dust, machinery, noise, fumes, sewage, heights, and the outdoors.
