Job Description The physical therapist assistant (PTA) assesses and treats patients in the home in order to assists them in the development and execution of activities of daily living. Carries out a rehabilitation program, including treatment and documentation, within the parameters prescribed by the supervising physical therapist. Completes visits in a timely manner and in accordance with agency policy. Reports changes/concerns or schedule changes to the rehabilitation supervisor accordingly Attend weekly case conferences for effective interdisciplinary communication regarding patient care Attends staff meetings and educational in-service programs Participates in agency quality improvement activities pertinent to the role of the PTA Promotes personal safety and a safe environment for clients Demonstrates knowledge of safety and infection control practices by compliance with agency policies and procedures Recognizes and reports potentially unsafe situations to the supervising therapist Demonstrates safe practices in the use of equipment Assesses environment and initiates actions to prevent accidents and promote safety Performs job in compliance with agency policies and procedures, local, state, and federal laws Performs appropriate standardized diagnostic musculoskeletal, neurological and functional skills tests and provides that information to the supervising physical therapist. Documents each day of treatment in the patient record in a timely manner. Instructs and assists patients in the performance of therapeutic exercise, gait training and activities of daily living and provides education in proper posture/ body mechanics to promote prevention of injury and maximize therapeutic outcomes. Educates patients concerning how to maximize quality of life within the limits of their physical capabilities and family members concerning how to best assist patients in the rehabilitation process. Remains abreast of therapeutic techniques and trends in Physical Therapy/health care. Conducts interactions with patients, family members and other associates in a manner consistent with the intent of the agency's mission, vision, and values. RequirementsBasic Qualifications Must be a graduate of an accredited physical therapist assistant program and holder of a current permanent or temporary license from the Indiana Medical Licensing Board. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and technical skill necessary for providing competent, comprehensive patient care. CPR certification required. Must possess an Indiana Driver's license and automobile liability coverage as required by the State of Indiana. Ability to travel to all regions serviced by the agency in various weather conditions Must have the ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
