Civil Staff Engineering Technician - BESS Contract-to-Hire Opportunity Primary Location: Overland Park, KS lternate Locations: Denver, CO; Houston, TX; Jacksonville, FL; Orlando, FL Position Summary The Civil Staff Engineering Technician will support Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects by developing and modifying civil design deliverables under general supervision. This role performs advanced technical functions requiring strong knowledge of civil engineering design standards, electronic applications, and document control processes. The position focuses on the preparation of site grading, drainage, and utility plans using Autodesk Civil 3D and/or Bentley MicroStation, with an emphasis on proposed grading surfaces and plan development. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity supporting energy infrastructure projects in a collaborative, multidisciplinary design environment. Key Responsibilities Function in a project engineering technician capacity, supporting engineering and design teams with the development and modification of technical deliverables. Develop site civil deliverables including grading, drainage, and utility plans for BESS and related energy projects. pply foundational civil engineering principles and established design practices to create moderately complex design concepts and solutions. Utilize digital design tools and software (Civil 3D, MicroStation, CAD/BIM platforms) to create, modify, and maintain drawings and technical documentation. pply applicable standards, systems, document control procedures, departmental guides, and project-specific codes to deliverables. Review project requirements to determine appropriate formats, content, and levels of detail for deliverables. Perform design calculations, quantity takeoffs, material estimates, and maintain accurate design records. Review design inputs to ensure consistency and compliance with applicable codes and standards. ssist with quality reviews and proactively apply quality assurance and continuous improvement practices to all work products. Provide technical guidance and direction to other technicians and design professionals as needed. May review deliverables prepared by others and assist with defining work assignments and maintaining schedules. Coordinate with other design disciplines to exchange project information and support integrated design development. Proactively seek and share knowledge of emerging technologies, tools, and processes. May support field activities and maintain a strong focus on internal and external client needs and project drivers. Required Qualifications dvanced Autodesk Civil 3D experience, specifically with proposed grading surfaces and plan development. Minimum of 5 years of related civil engineering technician or design experience. Demonstrated experience supporting civil site design for energy, industrial, or infrastructure projects. Strong understanding of civil design standards, codes, and document control processes. Preferred Qualifications Diploma or Certificate required. ssociate Degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related design discipline preferred. Experience supporting Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), renewable energy, or utility-scale energy projects.
