The Welder III position is an advanced level welder and will be responsible for pressure vessel welding of carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum using TIG and MIG welding equipment. Must be able to perform x-ray quality welds. Candidate will be responsible for reading fabrication prints, routes, standard work instructions, and/or manuals to weld various systems. Principal Activities Operate the following equipment: Heating torches, band saw, radial drill, engine lathe, layout table, hand & power tools, welders and plasma torches. Work from route tags, blueprints and sketches to determine materials needed for fab. Able to determine weld requirement from a print. Ability to determine the best method of layout, fit-up and assembly from print. Fit assembly and weld as needed to avoid weld distortion. Flame straightens as required. Perform MIG and TIG welds to include base plates (structural) and piping. Use measuring instruments such as a tape measure, fillet weld gauges, Cam gauges, scale, level, square, and burning templates. Remove burrs and sharp edges, mark and identify finished and raw materials to maintain heat numbers for traceability. Perform other job-related duties as needed Certificates/Security Clearances/Other Education & Experience High school diploma or GED required. 3 - 5 years welding experience. Must obtain certifications referenced above within 30 days of employment. Equivalent to completing accredited apprenticeship in a recognized trade, craft or occupation, or equivalent to a one-year technical college education. Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities Knowledge Skills & Abilities Must be able to obtain in-house structural welding certification. Must be certified or able to certify to ASME IX. This includes pressure vessel and pipe welding. GMAW (MIG) and GTAW (TIG). Must be familiar with ASME IX and AWS D1.1 welding codes. Must be Proficient in understanding and reading blueprints and WPS's. Use of trades mathematics, together with the use of drawings, specifications, charts, tables, handbook formulas; all varieties of precision measuring instruments. Equivalent to completing accredited apprenticeship in a recognized trade, craft or occupation, or equivalent to a one-year technical college education.
