Job Description Position Summary The Maintenance Mechanic performs general maintenance duties as directed by the Supervisor and Manager of Plant Operations. The Maintenance Mechanic responds to work requests by hospital staff and completes assigned work orders. Makes emergency and trouble repairs, performs preventive and routine maintenance. Performs skilled maintenance tasks related to hospital utilities and various equipment as necessary. Uses common hand tools, test equipment, machines, power and related equipment. Assists in maintaining HVAC, plumbing, ventilation and related equipment. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned. Cleans work areas and manages use of materials, supplies and equipment. Refers problems requiring extensive repair to appropriate individuals. Demonstrates appropriate behavior in the workplace, treating all staff, visitors and patients with respect and dignity. Communicates issues to the Supervisor in a professional manner and does not discuss confidential issues with other staff members. Completes daily work orders as assigned. Communicates to proper staff concerning incomplete work or tasks that require additional assistance. Ensures a safe work environment while completing assigned tasks. Ensures integrity and quality of all work completed. Communicates problems, issues to Supervisor/Department Manager when appropriate. Demonstrates good judgment when working in/around patient care areas, not to disturb the patient care process unnecessarily. Demonstrates thorough knowledge concerning basic tool use, proper techniques in maintaining and repairing equipment. Adapts to changes in the daily workload. Responsible for tools and related materials. Assures tools and related materials are kept in good working order for use by appropriate staff members. Completes required paperwork, reports and competencies. Attends required staff meetings, continuing education meetings, committee meetings, etc. Assures compliance with local, state and national codes and standards for work required completed by licensed professionals. Minimum Requirements High School or greater degree is required- or higher.
