Position Type: Custodial/Plant Operator Date Posted: 2/25/2026 Location: Park Elementary Closing Date: 03/10/2026 THE SCHOOL BOARD OF HIGHLANDS COUNTYPOSITION TITLE: Plant OperatorASSIGNMENT: Plant Operator 1 - Elementary/Middle MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma or equivalent Four (4) years documented experience as custodian or worker in comparable duties in field of building construction/maintenance or job related area Must have valid Florida Driver's License and own transportation Basic computer skills Working Conditions: Ability to understand and follow directions Physical ability to perform strenuous manual tasks during the performance of duties, including exerting up to 70 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force frequently; crawling, twisting, kneeling, bending, stooping, climbing, lifting, pushing, pulling, balancing Repetitive motion/movement Working continuous/long hours on his/her feet Performing work from a ladder or heights Hearing/visual acuity Potentially harmful conditions to include: Ability to work in extreme climates (possible temperatures exceeding 100 degrees for over one hour); changing environmental/atmospheric conditions to include exposure to substances such as fumes, odors, gasses, etc.; contact with various forms of wildlife to include insects, animals, birds, reptile, etc.; loud/vibrating noises; various other hazardous conditions such as use of power tools/mechanical parts Satisfactory clearance of a criminal history records check and drug screening ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Recent documented managerial/supervisory experience Willingness to participate in professional development and ongoing training relevant to job responsibilities Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing in the English language PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the assigned facility each day Assigns and oversees the work of custodial crews at assigned facility Assists in planning and oversees all maintenance and repair work in the building Functions as a working foreman Performs and / or supervises cleaning tasks, as well as inspects the facility to assure all areas of responsibility are properly serviced Assures buildings, rooms, plants, etc. are secured after being serviced Inspects buildings, rooms and facilities for cleanliness and coordinates with Facilities Department for proper maintenance Addresses deficiencies as cited on the Annual Fire/Health/Safety Report Adopts District procedures and instructs employees in the proper use of custodial supplies and equipment Supervises the work of custodial employees and shares input to evaluate their performance with custodial supervisor or site administration Instructs custodial personnel in practicing and developing safe work habits Maintains an inventory and recommends purchases of supplies, tools, equipment, and fuel Requests and distributes custodial supplies Maintains and prepares reports of work and materials utilized Performs general maintenance duties as expected from Facilities Department and Facility Administrator Participates in and determines the needs for electrical, carpentry, masonry, heating and plumbing, maintenance work and assures accomplishment of required work Operates school heating, cooling, and water systems Takes appropriate measures to control utility usage Conducts, twice a year, a preventative maintenance audit of their facilities to evaluate lighting systems, door hardware, playground equipment, and the heating, air conditioning and ventilating systems Conducts monthly inspections of all fire extinguishers and maintain records Assists in coordinating with local emergency responders during fires, emergencies, fire drills, and school security drills Serves as a Security Alarm Contact for facility assigned Assists with facility shelter coverage Performs related duties as required for daily operation of the school Works in collaboration with Custodial Company's Supervisors to meet the facility's needs ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all other duties as assigned by supervising administrator.
