Salary: $57,241.08 - $85,861.88 Annually Location : Glendale, AZ Job Type: Full Time Job Number: 2026-04563 Department: City Manager's Office MUNIS- Org Description: Code Compliance Opening Date: 02/26/2026 Closing Date: 3/12/2026 5:00 PM Arizona Hours per Week: 40 Description The Role:The Code Compliance Inspector performs a variety of routine and technical fieldwork activities to ensure compliance with city codes and ordinances. The ideal candidate will have two (2) years experience in public contact work involving problem resolution preferably in a technical area such as zoning or code enforcement. High school diploma or equivalent required.Salary: This position is: FLSA non-exempt, and will earn overtime for any hours worked over 40 in a week. This position is a Grade 316 with an hourly salary between $27.5197 - $41.2798. Contribution is mandatory, and deducted every pay period The current contribution rate is 12.00% Essential FunctionsTravels/drives to perform field inspections and to ensure compliance with various city codes and zoning ordinances. Performs field inspections in response to complaints and proactively inspects an assigned geographic area to ensure compliance with various city codes and zoning ordinances. Prepares and issues compliance orders for the discontinuance, removal or alteration of conditions that violate city codes or ordinances; performs follow-up inspections to ensure that corrective action has been taken. Maintains effective communication with citizens and property owners in order to explain violations, code requirements and options to resolve code violations. Maintains accurate, comprehensive records and documentation related to work assignments and ensures all information is kept up to date. Works cooperatively with other City departments and agencies; coordinates inspections when necessary to ensure compliance. Works resourcefully with citizens and property owners in order to achieve a high level of voluntary compliance. Mediates disputes and negotiates solutions to resolve non-compliance problems. Coordinates projects with community and/or City services in situations of hardship or other extenuating circumstances to achieve compliance. Attends meetings and other public functions to inform the public on code compliance services. Operates city vehicles. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications/Special Requirements/Success Factors Two (2) years experience in public contact work involving problem resolution preferably in a technical area such as zoning or code enforcement. High school diploma or equivalent required. Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education. Knowledge of: Principles, practices, methods and techniques of code interpretation, application and enforceability Routine legal procedures related to compliance of codes and ordinances General research practices and techniques Basic principles and procedures of report writing and record maintenance Basic principles, practices and techniques of building and safety inspection techniques Ability to: Learn and apply city codes, ordinances, policies and procedures Use a personal computer and applicable software Respond to inquiries and complaints in a fair, tactful and professional manner Analyze complex situations and problems; and use sound judgment in making decisions Learn the geography of the City Understand legal descriptions and boundary maps of real property Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work Operate city vehicles Special Requirements Valid Arizona driver's license. Will be required to work weekends. May be required to work other than normal business hours. This position is classified as safety-sensitive which requires candidates to successfully undergo drug and alcohol testing prior to employment. They will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy.
