Work Shifts 8:00 A.M - 4:00 P.M 9:00 A.M - 5:00 P.MEvening availability requiredSaturday availability required Duties & Responsibilities Purpose of Position: Under general direction, with wide latitude for independent judgment and discretion, performs the most difficult and highly specialized professional medical work in the specialties of Orthopedic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Perinatal Obstetrics/Gynecology and Neonatal Pediatrics, Anesthesiology, Infectious Diseases, Emergency Medicine and other specialties and/or subspecialties, as designated by the Senior Vice President, Medical and Professional Affairs and the Vice President, Corporate Affairs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: In general, the Physician Specialist performs the following: 1. Examines patients, orders, performs or supervises appropriate therapeutic treatments. 2. Consults with other members of the professional staff and may give guidance, advice or professional medical opinion to less experienced members of the professional medical staff, the house staff and other members of the health care team. May provide instruction for Medical Students in specialty or subspecialty areas. In particular, the Physician Specialist performs one of the following: 1. For the specialty of Neurosurgery, using a variety of surgical instruments and employing established surgical techniques, performs surgery to correct, prevent or repair organic diseases and disorders of the nervous system. 2. For the specialty of Orthopedic Surgery, using a variety of surgical instruments and employing established surgical techniques, performs surgery to correct deformities, repair injuries, prevent diseases and improve function in patients. 3. For the specialty of Anesthesiology, administers anesthetics to render patients insensible to pain during surgical, obstetrical and other medical procedures. Examines patient to determine degree of surgical risk and type of anesthesia and sedation to administer. Discusses findings with medical practitioner concerned with the case. 4. For the specialty of Emergency Medicine, delivers the highest level of medical care to critically ill or injured patients in the Emergency Room. 5. For the Obstetric/Gynecology subspecialty Perinatology, after diagnoses discusses problem with patient and prescribes medication, appropriate exercise or hygiene regimes, or performs surgery, as needed, to correct malfunctions or remove diseased organs. 6. For the Pediatric subspecialty of Neonatology, plans and carries out medical care programs for children from birth through their first month to monitor and evaluate growth and development. 7. For the subspecialty of Infectious Diseases, plans and carries out with other Physicians medical care programs for patients with infectious diseases, in particular those infected with the HIV virus. 8. For other designated specialties and/or subspecialties, performs the difficult and highly specialized professional work related to the field. Minimum Qualifications 1. Graduation from an approved medical school. 2. Completion of approved residency or fellowship in the specialty or sub-specialty and Board eligible or certified or Subboard eligible or certified. 3. Five years experience in field of specialty or subspecialty acceptable to the Medical Board of the Hospital. 4. Licensed to practice medicine in the State of New York. Department Preferences Preferred: Board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) . Successful completion of a Psychiatric Residency.
