Position Description Road/Field Mechanic Comes with a G&L mechanic's truck Must report to work each day as scheduled by Shop Foreman on time and ready to work. Employee shall call Shop Foreman if they are to miss day or report late. Must wear required safety clothing and personal safety equipment as required per daily situation. Must be able to repair and replace damaged or worn parts. Operate/inspect heavy equipment and vehicles to diagnose defects. Diagnose faults or malfunctions to define required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment like computerized test equipment and calibration devices. Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment and vehicles using hoists and hand tools. Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work of equipment and vehicles. Examine parts for damage or excessive wear. Maintain equipment service/repair records. Read and understand operating manuals and schematics. Fit bearings to adjust, repair or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. Weld or solder broken parts and structural members. Clean parts by spraying them with grease solvent or immersing them in tanks of solvent. Repair, rewire and troubleshoot electrical systems.
