POSITION SUMMARY The LVN, reporting to the Health Services Coordinator, is responsible for a variety of administrative and nursing functions that support the Nursing Department in delivering high-quality healthcare services to the residents of Mountain Shadows. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSClinical and Nursing Duties: Maintain and track resident lab results, verify ordered labs, cross-reference results, notify the RN of any required re-draws, and upload all results into Therap. Order labs as needed or as requested by RNs. Perform sterile and non-sterile nursing procedures, including replacing G-tube Mic-Key buttons, indwelling and suprapubic catheters, and administering IM/subq injections. Complete medication passes as requested by the RN. Complete monthly resident weights and report any concerns to the RN including significant weight changes of 5lbs or more. Assist RNs with hospital and ER discharges. Assist with new admissions and discharges, including training, medication ordering and delivery, paperwork, and medical equipment setup. Reordering medical equipment supplies and replacement parts for CPAP/BiPAP machines, oxygen, PureWick catheters, etc. Provide TB tests to employees as needed. Evaluate injured workers and recommend appropriate treatment or follow-up. Complete initial resident assessments for GERS as requested by RNs. Assist RNs with health data entry and documentation filing including annual physicals, 60 day visits, and psychiatric evaluations. Obtain samples for urine specimens, stool cultures, wound cultures, etc. and coordinate pick up with the laboratory. Medication Management: Check in House Supply Medications monthly for all homes. Check in Cycle Medications monthly for all homes and prepare noon school cards for delivery. Complete monthly Medication Administration Record (MAR) and controlled drug record audits. Configure the MAR for new medication and treatment orders or changes in orders. Assist RNs with medical waste procedures and reordering medications. Generate and prep physician orders for signature monthly for the psychiatrist and every other month for the primary care physician. Perform first aid kit supply audits. Training and Administrative Support: Conduct RN training modules for all new hires. Attend residential team meetings as needed. Cover for RNs on their days off by monitoring resident health status in assigned homes and responding to staff calls. Assist with vaccine consent forms and facilitating on-campus vaccine clinics. Update immunization records annually and as needed. Assist RNs with State Licensing Surveys. Assist RNs with reviewing nursing care plans quarterly. Communicate special instructions to staff including NPO instructions, holding medications, skin prep, etc. in preparation for appointments, procedures, surgeries, etc. as requested by the RN. Teach the H and N medication administration classes as requested by the RN. Help facilitate new hire physicals weekly by reviewing new hire packets for completion prior to their physical with the MD. Prepare resident emergency packets every other month and replace as needed. Note: Currently, this position does not require to take calls on assigned weekends however, this requirement may change in the future and be part of the responsibilities of the LVNC job position. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Must have current California LVN License in good standing Two years of experience working as an LVN One year experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities Must be able to work a flexible schedule which will include a variety of hours (Example coming in at 6 AM to train an AM employee). Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by our insurance agency. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to meet required deadlines. Good computer skills and experience using Microsoft Word, Teams and Excel.
