Interview Process Details The interview process will include two required components: Formal In-Person Interviews - to be scheduled on March 19, 20, or 25 (2026) Ride-Along - A four-hour session will be scheduled for those passing the interviews. We will make every attempt to allow out of town applicants to complete their interview and Ride-Along within 24 hours of one another, to reduce applicant travel time and stays. Mead Police Department Pay Rates Police Cadet Rate (In Academy) - $69,504 / $33.42 per hour Police Officer Level One - $81,766 / $39.31 per hour Policer Officer Level Two - $86,264 / $41.47 per hour Police Officer Level Three - $91,008 / $43.75 per hour (Lateral 1 entry point) Police Officer Level Four - $96,014 / $46.16 per hour (Lateral 2 entry point) Police Officer Level Five - $101,294 / $48.70 per hour (Lateral 3 entry point) Police Officer Level Six - $106,865 / $51.38 per hour Lateral 1 requires at least four (4) years of prior law enforcement experience. Time worked as a corrections/jail deputy will be credited up to 50% (e.g. two (2) years working in the jail + two (2) years Patrol experience will count for the four (4) years' experience for this level only) Lateral 2 requires at least five (5) years of prior law enforcement patrol experienceLateral 3 requires at least six (6) years of prior law enforcement patrol experienceLateral 2 and 3 levels do not consider time worked as a corrections/jail deputy Summary of DutiesResponds to calls for service and conducts proactive enforcement and community policing. Investigates crime scenes or accidents and assists other officers. Detects and prevents criminal activities by surveillance of assigned business and residential areas. Notes possible criminal occurrences and takes steps to prevent criminal actions. Promotes crime prevention by initiating contact with businesses and residents including explaining applicable laws, soliciting cooperation in crime reporting, and otherwise creating good rapport with citizens. Protects evidence, takes statements from witnesses, and assists detectives in specialized investigations. Provides emergency medical assistance and assist medical/fire personnel. Enforces traffic laws, vehicle codes, and promotes traffic safety. Directs traffic, reports unsafe road conditions, and otherwise promotes vehicular and pedestrian safety. Conducts community oriented policing activities, including eliciting business and community participation, working with community groups, conducting welfare checks, and other community policing activities. Prepares written reports and logs and manages case information. Prepares and provides testimony in court and works with attorneys. Provides support for code enforcement and animal control activities. Issues appropriate citations and takes immediate actions to mitigate problems and disputes. May be assigned to a specialty unit or assigned. Trains and mentors other officers in areas of expertise or specialty. Performs other related work, as required and assigned. Minimum QualificationsMust possess a valid Colorado Driver's License (within 30 days of hire) and maintain a satisfactory driving record. Must possess, or be in the process for, the State of Colorado Peace Officers' Standards Certificate (POST Certification). High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is preferred. Must be at least 21 years of age. Must be able to maintain the required law enforcement certifications. Must be able to successfully remain current on all Mead Police Department and Colorado POST training requirements. Must live within a 22 mile radius of WCR 34 and I-25 (see map below). Disqualifications Any instances of the following criteria may be grounds for disqualification of an applicant from the selection process for any position with the Mead Police Department. If it is determined you were dishonest or provided false information during the hiring process you will be permanently removed from all selection processes. Drug/Alcohol Use: The Town of Mead follows "41 U.S. Code Chapter 81 - Drug-free Workplace" and will evaluate each candidate based on their unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensation, possession, or use of a controlled substance. Unwillingness to adhere to the drug-free workplace act, or evidence you have not adhered to this during previous employment. Driving Record: Charges (not final disposition) within the previous 3 years to include serious bodily injury or death to another while operating a motor vehicle; revocation or loss of driving privileges by government or court order (unless by judgement); habitual traffic offender; Driving Under the Influence/Impairment of alcohol or drugs. Dismissed cases will be evaluated. Criminal History: Any POST approved Disqualifying Incidents as listed on their website: Conviction of any domestic violence related offense. Self-admitted commission of any felony as an adult. Applicant is currently subject to any restraining order pursuant to a domestic violence proceeding, or which prohibits them from possessing a firearm. Any pattern of criminal activity (self-admitted or otherwise). Character: Falsifying official documentations or certifications for personal gain or benefit. Current or former member or supporter of any group that seeks to alter the form of government of the United States of America by unconstitutional means. Prior conduct that could bring discredit upon the Department, or the individual. Any dishonorable discharge from military service. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities RequiredKnowledge of police department policies, as well as municipal, state, and federal laws with the ability to properly apply them in appropriate circumstances. The Town of Mead offers a comprehensive benefit package and pays a major portion of the employee premium to make these benefits more affordable for our employees. Coverage begins on the 1st of the month following the date of hire, unless otherwise noted. Full-Time employees may participate in the following benefits: MEDICAL, DENTAL, & VISION INSURANCE The Town of Mead's medical, vision, dental, and life insurance provider is Colorado Employer Benefit Trust (CEBT). The town pays 100% of employee coverage and 50% of employee's covered dependents for the least expensive plan. Medical: Employees may choose to enroll in one of following medical plan options which have a broad network of doctors, hospitals and health providers: • Kaiser Permanente HMO 45 plan • CEBT PPO 4 plan (UMR A UnitedHealthcare Company) • CEBT High Deductible Health Plan (HD3500 via UMR- A UnitedHealthcare Company) Dental: A comprehensive dental program is available that provides access to a broad network of dental providers. Coverage is through Delta Dental. Vision: Employees that choose to enroll in our CEBT vision plan may take advantage of benefits that include coverage towards contacts and glasses. FSA & HSA ACCOUNTSFlexible Spending Account (FSA): Employees have the option to contribute to their FSA which can be used to pay for qualifying medical, dental and vision expenses. The Town offers Flexible Spending Account through Alerus. The Town matches medical FSA contributions up to $500/year for eligible employees. Dependent Care FSA: Dependent care FSA allows for reimbursement of dependent childcare or elder day care expenses on a tax favored basis. Health Savings Account (HSA):An employee who has elected the HD3500 plan (High-Deductible Health Plan) is eligible to contribute to an HSA account. The Town contributes $750 annually (Individual)- $31.25 per paycheck and $1,200 annually (Family)- $50.00 per paycheck . RETIREMENT The Town's commissioned police officers are covered by a defined benefit pension plan through the Fire and Police Pension Association (FPPA). 2026 employee / employer contribution rates are 12% /11%, respectively. LIFE & AD&D The Town of Mead provides basic life coverage up to $50,000 for employees who are regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week. Additional coverage may be purchased through a voluntary life insurance program. DISABILITY The Town's short-term and long-term disability coverage is provided by The Hartford Group. Premium costs for employees who are scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week is paid for 100% by the Town. The Town's full time commissioned police officers are covered by the Statewide Death & Disability Plan through FPPA. Benefits provide 24-hour coverage, both on and off duty. The Town currently covers 100% of the premium which is 3.4% of the employee's base pay. PAID-TIME OFF The Town provides accrued paid time off (PTO) for personal days, vacation, medical absences, unexpected emergencies, or any other reason an employee may need. Paid time off for officers is adjusted to include the Town's observed holidays. Police accrual rates include Town observed holidays. Part-time employees working 20-39 hours receive a percentage of the full-time vacation benefit. Members have access to eight therapy and eight coaching sessions per calendar year, plus unlimited access to Modern Health digital resources. OTHER BENEFITS Wellness Program: The Town of Mead values employee health and well-being. The Town has a platform called Nectar that is used as a wellness & recognition platform. An employee can earn points through recognition & wellness to buy gift cards, Mead Swag, and other items. They can also provide recognition and points to colleagues. Physical Fitness Reimbursement: The Town offers a $30.00 per month reimbursement for eligible fees including the annual or monthly fees for an individual membership at a fitness center or virtual program, as well as fees for personal training or approved fitness classes (such as yoga, spin, strength training, aerobics, boxing or martial arts, or other self-defense classes such as Krav Maga and jiu-jitsu). Tuition Reimbursement- receive a reimbursement of up to $3,000 per fiscal year for preapproved educational expenses for employees with the town for at least a year. College Invest - opportunity to enroll in a 529 College Savings Plan. Town of Mead employee vehicle charging program - Special charging rate at Mead Town Hall charging station. Employee charge rate is $.10 per kWh. The Length of Service Award recognizes the value of the long-term, dedicated service of Town employees. Employees at 5 years & beyond receive $100.00 for each year worked (starting at $500.00). This is paid out as a one-time bonus in year 6 and beyond. Community Center: Employees get to use the Center free of charge.
