Job Title: Associate Logistics Technician Location: Elma, NY (14059) Duration: 6 Months Shift Hours: 1st shift, 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m OVERVIEW: This is a single position description designed to cover three discreet levels of expectation, requirement and accountability within the Material Handling / Logistics function. The General Function & Nature and Scope sections of the description offer a general overview of the expectations of these positions within Material Handling / Logistics. The Qualifications and Accountability sections specify the differences between the various levels. This job description is written to include the job responsibilities of all of the Material Handling / Logistics departments across the different operating groups at Moog. For clarification, the term "team" can be defined as a functional team, cell, workgroup, department, value stream, or other collection of individuals working towards a common goal. Therefore, this term can be applied across the individual business unit model regardless of what terminology is used to define the organizational structure. GENERAL FUNCTION: Within the framework of a team-based organization, perform various physical and transactional process based operations supporting production, repair, development and non-production (MRO) requirements of the business. Together with other team members, engage in the direction of the team by coordinating efforts, developing capabilities, completing training, communicating status and leading change to improve team performance. Support team initiatives and coordinate / manage team performance through the use of metrics and data to meet or exceed safety, quality, delivery, cost and lean performance goals. NATURE AND SCOPE: Operating within the guidelines defined by the business unit model, the incumbent performs at various levels of responsibility and accountability within the following performance categories: Logistics : Perform various physical and transactional process based operations supporting production, repair, development and non-production (MRO) requirements of the business. These processes include (but are not limited to) Material Delivery Floor Stock Replenishment Material Stocking Receiving Packaging Driving / Transportation ESD (Electro-Static Discharge) Inventory Management The incumbent will be required to develop working knowledge of several software applications including (but not limited to) internal business systems The incumbent may be required to utilize various equipment such as manual and motorized pallet jacks pallet lifters fork trucks power and hand tools motor vehicles other devices as defined by the BU Physically, the role may require that the Logistics Technician be on his / her feet constantly and be able to lift materials and containers up to 35 pounds regularly. For materials of greater weight, the individual will have access to numerous lifting devices to assist, with some of these devices requiring company provided training. Team Initiatives : Full involvement in promoting and advancing a team-based culture is required for this position. The incumbent is expected to actively participate, and in some cases, lead team projects, process improvements and lean initiatives intended to improve overall efficiency. Most tasks and improvement initiatives will involve working with teams from other functional areas or other divisions. Performance Metrics : A thorough understanding of team performance metrics is required. These metrics form the basis for identifying performance deficiencies and potential opportunities for process improvement initiatives. This position is responsible for learning, teaching and communicating performance metrics to other team members and promoting team accountability for their performance. Schedule Satisfaction : Coordinate efforts to accomplish daily schedule priorities and commitments. The incumbent acts as a source of information for process status to other departments and actively works to minimize process delays, including determining staffing requirements / adjustments to support multiple internal and external customer needs. A close working relationship with numerous teams such as Supply Chain, Contract Administration, Manufacturing and Assembly & Test is required to effectively coordinate schedule requirements. At times, he / she may be required to work off-shift hours for short periods of time to accommodate internal promise schedules. Leadership : The incumbent collaborates with the Supervisors, Managers and other identified representatives, to provide the overall leadership of their team. They set the example for others to follow and provide the training and encouragement for others to develop capabilities. The leaders take ownership for team performance and transmit accountability across the team. Good communication skills and solid understanding of team principles is required for effective leadership. Training: The incumbent provides training as required to enhance the capabilities and knowledge of other team members. The training can pertain to routine daily activity information, specific process based or certification-based training, or mentoring. Mentoring is the process of passing on experience and knowledge to aid in the personal and career development of others. Commitment : The incumbent must possess the personal commitment and desire to be accountable for his/her job performance. The ability to volunteer, willingness to learn, display a positive attitude, set a good example and positively contribute to the teaming environment is essential. Process Improvements : This position requires the incumbent to lead and/or participate in process improvements intended to reduce waste and improve efficiency within the work area. Daily awareness of redundant activities and non-value added efforts form the basis for identification and implementation of process improvement initiatives.
