Job Description

Description The Controller leads accounting operations at CardVault by Tom Brady, owning financial reporting accuracy, internal controls, and month-end close as the company scales its multi-location retail, live breaking, and ecommerce business. This is a hands-on, player-coach leadership role, working directly with the team while building scalable accounting processes. As Controller, a typical day might include the following: Leading and actively participating in month-end close, including review and approval of journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations Owning the accuracy and integrity of the balance sheet, ensuring all accounts are reconciled, reviewed, and supported monthly Managing and developing the accounting team by setting clear expectations, workflows, and accountability, and providing regular feedback, performance evaluations, and development plans Establishing best practices and standard operating procedures to enhance team capabilities and support long-term growth Overseeing accounts payable operations, including invoice processing, coding accuracy, payment timing, and vendor issue resolution Owning accounting for revenue, cash, deferred revenue, inventory, COGS, and operating expenses Ensuring timely resolution of reconciling items across key accounts, including cash, payment processors, deferred revenue, gift cards, inventory, and accruals Overseeing inventory accounting and partner with operations on inventory counts and adjustments Ensuring GAAP compliance, including execution of ASC 606 Leading audit preparation and serve as the primary accounting contact for auditors and tax partners Owning accounting systems and process design within Workday Financials, including leadership of the Workday Accounting Center deployment Driving process improvements, documentation, and internal controls that scale with growth Other duties as assigned Requirements This job might be for you if you demonstrate the following abilities and meet the following qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years of people management experience, with prior roles such as Controller, Assistant Controller, Director of Accounting, or Assistant Director of Accounting Strong GAAP foundation with retail and/or ecommerce experience Hands-on experience with: Multi-unit month-end close Revenue accounting and deferred revenue Cash and payment reconciliations Inventory and cost accounting Experience implementing or operating within Workday Financials or similar ERP systems; Workday Accounting Center experience strongly preferred Proven ability to work directly with teams - not just oversee them Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment Physical Demands / Work Environment / Hours The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
